Ultras

If anyone wants to see if it can be created at a British ground, attend a Celtic v Rangers game, better at Celtic then Rangers to be honest. Sit in the main stand as you get a better view of it all from the new stands. Some of the flags etc are the size of a 5 a'side pitch. I managed to go with a mate when I was posted in Scotland, another interesting game with plenty of flags etc is the Aberdeen v Celtic or Rangers games, now there is an "hate" match.
I aggree with one post ref the scarves being given out free at the derby a couple of years ago but it was only created for one game why dosn't everyone bring them back each game?

Yeah, i agree with you there. Aberdeen vs Celtic/Rangers has been a "hate" match for many many years. Usually you can see a decent display for that match.

Joan La Porta got rid of them at Barcelona for a reason. They are more interested at posing and acting hard than football.

which probably explains the poor very touristy atmosphere they had when we played them

Maybe cos it was a friendly at one of the most popular clubs in the world?
People who want 'ultras' have no idea what ultras are. Ultras were/are actually copying the British hooligans of yore.

Dont think flares are a good idea!

I was at a Wales match at Cardiff years ago when a flare went off and went straight across the pitch into a stand!

It was not till I got home after the match that I found out the flare had hit a random father with his son and killed him!

You can be apart of active support and not be violent. It's about turning your home ground into a fortress, it's about trying to give the players that little bit extra to get a win. Some groups are big on tifos and big flags etc, others vocally, and the best usually have both going pretty well.

A lot of say, the Italian clubs have strong political/religious ties because of the city or the people who started the clubs way back when. Some groups use this to push their own agendas though football, but it's pretty easy to ignore that.

Anyways, the best way they've discovered to do it down here is to get someone with a megaphone to lead the chants, probably a 1/3rd of the way up the bay facing away from the field. We've got a drummer too, but that's because we have alot more European-style chants which have more emphasis on rhythm than the usual English chants. It helps especially for the outer bays so they can sing in time with everyone else. But saying that, it's not necessary if you don't want one.

A few random things Sydney has done over the last 4 and a bit seasons.

No drums and megaphones please! We will look a right set of wankers.
Plus all this is not very English is it, it's more of a continental thing.
We have songs about our players cocks anyway, what can beat that for an atmosphere lol

at schalke i noticed the end behind the goal where the ultras were everybody had plaquards with pictures and slogans on. plus the scarves and big banners. i wish something like this happened in eastlands but it never will. for instance if i took something in the south stand i would get funny looks so can you imagine what looks ou would get in the north stand or the colin bell. they would think you were crazy.

Its cos us Brits talk about things and moan about it. We never put it into action. Its the same about politics etc

LaPorta certainly hasn't got rid of them. They were fighting Espanyol at Montjuic last season and his actions were deplorable.
