un-write protecting music

Does anyone know how to un-write protect music? I have a new pc with windows 7 on it and I want to copy a few tunes to my mp3 player, but when I do it tells me I can't because they are write protected - even tunes which couldn't possibly be write protected.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

You could illegally download all your music, solves the problem?

Not that I would suggest that, just something I have heard from friends...

These are the two most common soultions to this problem

1. Right click the mp3 file , go to properties and uncheck 'read only'

2.Your mp3 player or the memory card ( ex. a mini-SD card) must have a switch on the side with which you can turn write protection on and off.

Try these two methods and let me know i they work.

1. Right click the mp3 file , go to properties and uncheck 'read only'

correct, but sod that for a game of soldiers;

rather than do each file individually, chose the directory that contains all your music, keep clicking 'read only' until the box is completely clear (often goes greyed out first time, which means some is write protected, some isn't)

but yep, it sounds like the mp3 player is write protected.

I had something kinda similar last night..
I'm unable to drag an album across into itunes. It says my ipod is unable to play this type I'd file. But they are just mp3s...and play in itunes...just not on ipod.

Anyone know why this is?

2 worked for me, the memory card has a "lock" switch on the side which I flipped and it allowed me to put a load of tunes on it
