Underrated vs overrated

I was referring to his ability to pick up the ball deep and immediately dispatch it simply to a silva or Yaya. Of course he never carved defences open, but what he did was give us the momentum to attack teams who still had men committed forward.

If you watched him he hardly ever passed it backwards and rarely gave it away. Everything he did was simple but very effective.

If he'd had any pace he could have been one of the best midfielders of his generation.
OK. I was going to say that, from memory, he just used to give it to Dave or Yaya and let them do their thing. You're bang on though, the bloke was very, very underrated. If he'd played for the Rags, and Ferguson, he'd be remembered as one of the best at what he done.......however, he signed for us, and therefore will not go down as anything special.

I think most forget that de Jong started the first game against Swansea in our first title winning season but picked up a fairly serious injury keeping him out for a while. I don't think Mancini ever intended a Barry-Toure midfield but when it worked so well de Jong struggled to get back in the team. de Jong was awesome though, recall a game at Anfield he took out both Babel and Gerrard with one tackle while winning the ball cleanly, neither of them were seen again that match.

Reckon De Jong and Fernandinho would have mind an excellent midfield pairing with either Yaya or Silva in front of them. Didn't have enough about him in a 4-4-2 though way to limited.

I liked Barry he was out of his depth in european games, left at the right time imo.

Two who were both excellent for City. NDJ in my opinion has never been replaced. As for Gareth Barry;
If he played well then City played well. The amount of Everton fans who were distinctly unimpressed with his signing who then changed their minds to say he was the best thing since sliced bread never ceases to amaze me.

Gareth Barry was a top, top player end of story. If you can't see that you simply have no right to be watching football as you have not got a clue. The only people who didn't rate him has either an agenda against us or were clueless. If he had signed for Loserpool before he came to the Etihad it would have been a different tale.
