So when the Glazers started to tighten the purse strings, they still had enough quality to carry on winning by buying below par players without a full rebuild as was Ferguson's way, and the squad was allowed to run down while maintaining the veneer of success. Then Ferguson retired and the ship was with left without the one force that had been keeping it all ticking over and because Ferguson had so dominated the whole running of the club from top to bottom there was no structure to speak of, only yes men and flunkies whose only function was to do as Ferguson told them without having a creative input into the playing side of the club. It is for this reason the playing side of the club has become dysfunctional. There is no one there that has the knowhow to put a footballing infrastructure on place and progress it. This is why they have started to lurch from manager to manager and from failure to failure. If they think they are in trouble now, they ain't seen nothing yet. They need a total overhaul of the playing side infrastructure of the club from top to bottom. If they started now they are looking at 5-10 years and a shit load of money and the right people to spend it to sort this mess out and things are going to get far worse before they get better.

was having this debate with a rag I know this weekend, I really think they are having an identity crisis. what I mean by this is - what direction is the club going in and what do they want to achieve?

obviously they, like us, want to win trophies. but is there a long term plan of how to achieve this?

they seem to be going from manager to manager with no obvious linking of style of play to each other, eg, what was Moyes' and LVG's brief when they got the job? what was the style of play? the type of player they were bringing in?

so the Moyes thing didn't work, so they went for LVG, (historically a completely different style of football to Moyes) and now to Maureen (again a completely different style)

compare them to us, and since Txiki has come in, they have been building an identity of
a) style of play and
b) the type of player we have tried to bring in

and that is the case of most of the top clubs around Europe, they ultimately want to win trophies, but they have principles and philosophies and a certain style that you expect when you play them, United don't have any of this and are bumbling from Manager to Manager and style to style and different sets of players to completely different types of players....

as a blue its great to watch, but if I were a rag I would be very worried about the direction the club is going in.
 
Sky have dropped a bollocks showing the scum game tonight, im pretty sure a lot more neutrals would tune in to watch us
