United away - pre-match thread

We'll need height and aggression to deal with Ibrahimovic in the box - it's the main point of attack for United in the final third. They get it wide to Valencia or Shaw and whip it in. Kolarov and Otamendi are much more combative in the air, and they'll be better at dealing with it.

Stones is a very talented defender with a big future but he struggled against West Ham when they started going long in the second half. The game completely changed when Kolarov came on because he won almost every aerial challenge.

Stones struggled against West Ham when he got something in his eye.

No what we will do is control possession and close them down to prevent them putting in crosses for big nose. Cut out the service to him and the only thing he's good for is defending corners.

they will hit us on the break

they will hit us from wide areas and set pieces.........

I will feel a lot more confident if we had Kompany in there to defend against this and Big nose......

if we invert our fullbacks (not done it as much in the last two matches) then on the break we will be very vulnerable against the pace of potentially martial, that mitra guy and rashford

these are the key areas defensively

Attacking wise it think we will cause them problems but Mouhrihnio will park the bus so tis a great test

Think we will lose personally as we are not quite there yet but like someone else said I think we will lose the battle but win the overlay war this year and that is what matters most......

Think Kolarov could be deployed, back at LB. Just to give us some extra height.
Would Pep go 3 at the back ?

I know Pep rates hi in the air but from what I've seen over the last few years, kolorov is dreadful at defending the back post area and particularly in the air ....havign said that clichy is a short arse so he would be no better. The aerial battle will be where we could lose it though I have no doubt we will play b far the better football

I fully expect PEG will play this the way he did at Madrid against Barca. Basically kick, push? elbow off the ball? Break up play & launch it long - it's going to be bad tempered and nasty

Stones must play and maybe Alec at LB clichy was poor on sunday .
Will gungodan and sane take part ???
The timing of this game is the pits after international break
Bravo making his debut
Serge maybe out
I know it's the long game but I won't be able to take them bogeys gloating If they get the 3 points.

Physical play only works if you can get near your opponent. We are faster and move the ball better. They will be gassed by the 59th minute. 3-0 City. Sterling gets the first in the 37th minute, Rooney OG in the 73rd minute, and Navas puts one home off a horrible play from de Gea in stoppage time.

I suspect this game may come a little too early for us, and we could lose by a couple.

Make no mistake, this is bigger than the recent FA Cup Final for them, an opportunity to lay down a marker in front of a giddy crowd and a thirst to try and fool the wider watching public that not only are they relevant again, but that they also got the better manager.

Mourinho is a front-runner, always has been. He knows it could continue the mental facade in his squad they can go on to win the title this season.

The tactics will be there for all to see, sit in, defend the line of the 18-yard area, cut out our crossing (just like Chelsea used to) and go long and quick into Ibrahimovic, trying to do us in the air and at set-pieces.

We defended brilliantly there last season and will need to do so again.

We could well lose the battle, but fancy us to win the war, once we hit our straps.

Fine margins and all that, and the one thing we can be certain of, Pep will have our tactics and approach spot on. Everything else is down to fine margins.

Got to agree with this. We also saw how we tired second half against West Ham.

I think they'll park the bus until last 20 mins, then bring on Rashford and the new guy from Dortmund to exploit the space that's opened up.

Just hope we're 4-0 up by then... ;-)

This fixture has come far too early for both sides IMO. It's hard to analyse either and I'm sure Guardiola and Mourinho don't have their teams anywhere near where they want. Even worse is the international break and so many players arriving back late. Just want the win.

OK - this is probably not the thread but can anyone - in a very few words - give me the 'gist' of any 'bad blood' between Maureen and Pep.
I think that Maureen is an arrogant b**tard - 'The Special One ' my aris.

Shit went down...

A City win here would be rich as hell!

United are on cloud nine at the moment, all the perfect galatico signings they made. They're favourites for this game too I think. City winning would peg them back!

United 1-3 City. Mwahahahahaha

we have far to much for them it's been there for all to see in the five games played up to now and as each game comes and goes we gel better, we won't loose that's a dead cert it's a case of how many were going to stick in, i'd be very worried if i was a red they were dull in their opening fixture and just as bad at hull, relax and enjoy the game no worries with this one 0-4
