When the news was sprung on them, their initial reaction was the same as ours is now. Shambles, pathetic, laughable. What's the betting that Holloway and Nicholas will turn turtle (so to speak) and tow the party line and blame Madrid.
The simple thing would be for De Gea to buy out the rest of his contract ie: 9 months at £100,000 a week = £3.6 million
Signs for Real Madrid as a free agent and they give him the £3.6 million as a signing on fee.
Real get him for that and it's all United receive, no way will he play for them again, and if the rag twats had anything about them they wouldnt want him near the pitch.
Could it be possible, that after hanging out for the most money they could get from RM for de Gea, that the incompetent Scum didn't realise that the Spanish transfer deadline ended a day before ours?
Just a thought but their ineptitude shows no bounds.
It's hard, without knowing exactly how the future is going to pan out, to decide who are the winners, and who are the losers, in this whole debacle.
Assuming De Gea refuses to sign a new contract at United, and leaves on a free next summer, then United are certainly losers however. If De Gea also refuses to play for United this season, or Van Gaal sticks to his stubborn guns and won't pick him, then United are even bigger losers.
If De Gea still wants to sign for Real, and hasn't been put off by whatever it is that has happened here, then Madrid are the biggest winners, as they'll get a player they were willing to spend nearly £30m for free in 12 months time. They've got good enough keepers to last them this season in Navas and Casilla.
De Gea is a loser in this who debacle too, best case scenario he ends up playing this coming season at a club he doesn't want to be at, for a manager he dislikes. Worse case scenario, he sits in the stand watching for the entire season, and loses his place in Spain's European Championship squad.
Taking bias out of the way it's scary how much better City's squad is than Man Utd's. If they aren't careful they could end up like ac milan
De Gea can't do that without United's say so. You can only do that without any club involvement, under what I believe is called the "Webster ruling", if you're 28 or older, and have 2 years or less on your contract I believe. De Gea could offer to do that, and United could accept if they so wished, but the decision would be entirely United's.
oh goody - does that mean Mario will be back in Manchester soon?Taking bias out of the way it's scary how much better City's squad is than Man Utd's. If they aren't careful they could end up like ac milan
If he's a free agent, he can sign when he wants. Windows, as far as know, don't apply to free agents, only transfers between clubs. So, can't de Gay simply buy out the rest of his contract, become a free agent and play for who the fuck he wants from January?
