Yeah to be fair getting Board of all seat counting in the media is fans can take the piss but even that now O don’t bother with with the price of tickets now! Some fans just can’t afford to go to every game and prioritise other stuff in there lives.
Agree with this. The pundits get in for free. Much as it pains me to defend United I am sick to death of the media slagging off any clubs for empty seats. It happens all over Europe. The people who make the most noise are social media fanboys who never attend games. It is difficult and expensive for local working class fans to get to every match. Fair play to all the Blues who will turn up for Hoffenheim. I'll be there but I won't judge those who can't attend. Match-going fans of all clubs are the lifeblood of football and deserve respect.

Ha! On the mail online sports section (it is important you only use this section of that site unless you are a sucker for nonsense articles and need to know what shoes posh spice is wearing every few hours) they have a "Stuff that happened since Lukaku last scored at old trafford". One of the best is more misery for them, Sanchez has picked up 12m quid since last finding the net at home. Mbappe winning 4 trophies in that period of time is a bit of an eye opener also.

They borrowed heavily to buy the first major stars of Fergie's reign. I've posted stuff on this before (and frequently on my Facebook and twitter). Utd were making losses in 1989 and borrowing to fund the likes of Bruce and while people can go on about creating sustainable businesses etc. had that 1990 FAC and the subsequent ECWC success not happened then their entire financial landscape could have been somewhat different. Their buys worked - good manager - unlike at so many other clubs in the 80s (including City). City, Wolves and others borrowed money to fund expensive transfers but their purchases/management got it wrong or failed and the clubs were then always struggling to catch up.

If UEFA had any sense of what was fair and good for football financially they'd be celebrating owners who invest in teams - ensuring they also invest in their stadia, facilities and communities - and punishing those in debt or those that borrow huge sums in the hope the transfers pay off.
Thanks for this Gary,
I’d known about Davies and Gibson (unlike most rags I mention this to) but I hadn’t realised the debt gamble made at this time. I’d always thought that the investment at this time had come from the stock market floatation?

That mostly went to the shareholders I think, mainly the Edwards family.

The original stock market flotation was in 1991 so the transfer splurges of a couple of years previously were all financed by borrowed money.

And we've scored 83 goals since his last one
