The pisscan was never pulled up by the media over anything he said while manager of the rags. A couple of proper journos took him apart when interviewing him about his book, but the rest just blew smoke up his arse as usual.
On one occasion they'd got (yet another) dodgy decision and he said you always have to respect the referee. A week or two later he was hammering the ref as a decision had gone against them, yet none of the media freak show reminded him of his earlier comment.

It works as a hyperbolic statement rather than analogy in the sense that any positive outcome from 'selling a virus' would ultimately be outweighed by the initial contact with such a repugnant and offensive club.

However, I doubt the pisscan had this in mind when he mumbled the words at the press conference.
