Hard to judge Zidane based on his only experience as manager, Real Madrid. I think he is definitely an interesting coach, but does he have good skills as a manager ?How do we see Zidane getting on if he takes over? Won the la liga twice and the champs league 3x. His team had Ronaldo,Benzema,Kroos,Bale,Modric,Ramos,Navas,Varane,Marcelo and Casemiro amongst others. Same kind of quality Pep got to work with at Barca all them years ago.
A midfield with Modric and Kroos in their prime is completely different to what united have to offer though. Zidane is a big enough pull to make most players sign for him will be interesting.
Manure's squad is imbalanced right now , they have 100 attack oriented players , some quality, but their midfield is mid table tier, to be generous.
Their squad will need some rebuilding if they want to challenge for trophies IMO.
No doubt a better manager than Ole will get much better results even with their current squad, but winning trophies vs the likes of us, Chelsea and Liverpool ? Hard to do.
At Real , Zidane didn't have the best competition , Barca was near the end of a cycle , lost Neymar and bought Coutinho and Dembele for nearly 300 mil which turned out to be very bad business, they had Valverde as coach who is nowhere near top quality. Atletico was just Atletico , same boring defensive football with no trophies . So to be honest he's never faced hard competition during his time at Real while having a great squad , difficult to say how he'd do at Manure.
