‘Irrumabo’ probably isn’t the correct Latin to use here. It means ‘I will face-f**k you’ (and quite aggressively/violently, whether or not the recipient wants it). Learning Latin at school, we came upon a book of naughty Roman poetry which gave us all sorts of insights into swear words and Roman attitudes to sex. It included such gems as ‘Carmen 16‘ by Catullus, dedicated to his friends Furius and Aurelius, which starts with ‘Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo’ (ie ‘I will sodomize and face-f**k you’) and it’s regarded as one of the most obscene lines of poetry from any age.

Probably better to use ‘futuo’ (meaning ‘to connect with a woman’) as in (I think) ‘Quis in futuo Mancunium Unitum est?’. Given that the majority of the crowd over at The Swamp are graduates from The Halls of Academe, Oxbridge/Rhodes/Erasmus scholars all, they’d soon spot any potential errors in vocabulary, case or tense used and turn the joke back on us, a satisfaction we clearly wouldn’t want to afford them, would we?!

Btw, as one Blue has mentioned regarding learning Latin ‘not being a waste of time’, I’d reply ‘Indeed!’ - I think it was Robert Heinlein who said ‘Each generation thinks it invented sex. They’re wrong.’ and that’s true from reading the various naughty poems/writing collections from different generations.. one of Catullus’s fellow Romans, Martial (no, not that one at The Swamp!) has, amongst his canon, the memorable fragment ‘Mmm! What am I doing? slurs Lyris, feigning shock./ I’ll tell you you’re doing what you always do/ Even when you’re sober,/ Sucking c**k!’. A case of ’Plus ca change, c’est le meme chose’ as we used to say growing up in Hulme..

I think it’s quite right that we get the phrase correct, so thanks for that.

@mat - as the Roman centurion told Brian, "Write it out 100 times," though unlike the centurion, if it’s not done by sunrise, I won’t be attacking your testicles.

They are not in the cup and haven't even played a game in the past two weeks. It's none of his business. There is no danger of fixture congestion at the Rags because they don't get far enough in any cup competitions. His team needs more game time not less.

I think this will actually end up happening in the next couple of years. The efl will combine the league Cup and the auto windowscreen shield or whatever it's called nowadays.
 
Thing is rags haven’t got in hell chance of winning sod all this season so don’t come into any equation. What they do have is media saturation which is like “we didn’t win it but city spoilt our chances because of) and repeat every season till kingdom come. Fucking hell ive hated these bastards so long even if Jesus came on the cross and said he was a rag I would have taken “Longines spear off him and stuck the twat myself.
