The rags have always been piss-poor, even back in the 60's. They were never ever spoken about with hyped-up reverence and gratuitous fawning when I was at school, quite the reverse.
That disgusting excuse for a human being from Govan took over and the club spent more than anybody in order to stay relevant. There were banners everywhere demanding they get rid of the dictator: rag fans hated him and his style of football, there was immense disquiet within the board with the way bully-boy was running 'his' club, and only that fortuitous Mark Robins goal saved him from being ignominiously kicked out of the club.
That is when things changed. After that pretty much every game they played there were contentious decisions that favoured the rags: dodgy penalties, fouls they were allowed to get away, swearing abuse at the officials, and so on. The sudden wealth from the new Premier league, their refusal to share gate receipts, ludicrous sponsorship deals, and a servile, deferential broadcasting company spreading rag propaganda 24 hours a day made sure the rags stayed at the top of the tree.

Under the Ayatollah they did not play good football, it was Twitcher's favourite tactic of 'run down the wing and get some crosses in' all the time. And when you can spend what the fuck you want and not be reigned in, and you have officials happy to turn a blind eye to what is going on with your cheating, diving, time-wasting and general disregard for the rule book that everybody else has to adhere to, you cannot help but be successful.

All they are now is the mid-table mediocre club they have always been.

First hand I hope they get their backroom people sorted and magically Erik Ten Hag is maybe the least of problems. Build a squad of hungry young players and it's achievable to be on top of the game very easily if you do things right. Biggest mistake United has made post SAF as been the way they handed out 200k, 300k and 350k per week contracts for players who hadn't reached the level to earn that yet. And giving contracts to players "for protecting their value" WTF that even means.

Honesty Erik did good job last season and this season has been horrible. But we all know that it's been down to much much more than the manager's capability.

I think there may be another reason for the “injuries“ - reasons driven by the club hierarchy.
The league position is irrelevant to the rags now. They don’t want to finish in 7th place & get into the conference league.
They NEED to win the FA Cup in order to get into the Europa league - this is so necessary for them. Forget beating Arsenal- they don’t want to help us anyway - and ETH is a dead man walking so winning that game won’t save him.
They‘re saving everyone for the cup final.
Even if that is true that they are saving players for the cup final, it won’t make much difference

The likes of Varane, Shaw and Martinez haven’t played for months and would be so far off being match fit

I can see Maguire being fit but will Evans be, as he didn’t look it against Palace

A United fan colleague of mine said he’s heard rumours of Tent Pag getting sacked before the final and Ole coming back!

Literally anything could happen.
That would make them look really stupid & desperate. They need a top class manager whatever the cost. More important than players at the moment
