Unlocking an iPhone 5s

A family friend as give my son an iPhone 5s but it's locked to Vodafone Ireland, he's took it to various phone shops in Middleton and everyone of them have said they can't do it...Why is this can anyone help ???

If it was like my 4 was when I was with Vodafone it is because Apple unlock it. You have to ring Vodafone and get them to unlock it, they then contact Apple and in around 48 hours or less you will be able to connect to the correct iTunes account and it will become unlocked.

If it was very hot when he gave you the phone Jailbreaking (if possible??) is the only other way.

can take a fortnight, apple do not want the phone being unlocked

The friend will have to ring Vodafone and ask them to unlock the phone to all networks. They will need the imei number and the serial number of the phone. I then takes a couple of days but you get a text confirming.
Most of the time it's free, occaisonally some firms charge around £20.
I have done it this way a few times with t-mobile.
It's the only way I know that works for defo.
