Had a major issue with my laptop a few weeks ago and its now showing my wireless connection is an unsecured network so anybody can connect to it .... how do you secure this, I can't remember ???

thank you

You have to log onto your wireless routerenter a WEP Key and then enter the same Key ito your laptop, therefore only people with this key can access your network.

Varies from router to router if you let me kow the make and model i'll get you more details!

open the the console page of the wireless router by typing this ip address on the address bar in the internet explorer.
192.168.1.1

it will open the console page of the router.on the left hand side
u will see an option which says wireless settings.click on
wireless settings.then u need to look for the option which says
wpa security passphrase, just put the passphrase there n
click on apply,ur wireless connx will be secured.

you will then need to put this passphrase on your wireless connection on you PC hopefully it will ask you for it when you try to connect if not let me know and I'll let you know where to put it! Also let me know wether your using XP or Vista.

Hope this helps

Hi I've copied the above from this website <a class="postlink" href="http://www.whizblaze.com/network/vista.htm#Configure" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.whizblaze.com/network/vista.htm#Configure</a>
there are pictures on the website so might be more useful looking at it

Basically what you will need to do is match the encription settings on your pc with the router

image022.gif

it will look something like the above

Hope this helps

Click Start, right-click Network, and then click Properties.
In the task list of the Network and Sharing Center dialog box, click Manage wireless networks in the left pane. From the Manage Wireless Networks dialog box, you can add a new wireless network, remove a selected wireless network, obtain the properties of the wireless network adapter, and choose the type of profile to assign to new wireless networks (applies to all users or the current user).
To view or modify the properties of an existing wireless network, in the Networks you can view and modify list, right-click the network name you are connecting to and select Properties.
To modify encryption and security settings, in the Wireless Network Properties window, select the Security tab.
Connection Tab
Security Tab with WPA-Enterprise settings
WPA – Personal Settings

You usually choose it on the router config page in the same place where you entered the passphrase!

If you put in a word of your own choice, then I suspect it's WPA-Personal security , you can select TKIP or AES maybe have to try both!

Try it on these setting and let me know how you get on

Cheers

Hi

Check that on the router the settings are

in wireless-> Security

WPA-PSK (home no server)
TKIP
*********** (your passcode)

Then put the same on PC as above
