Hopefully the EU and UK took notice of that strategy. Kentucky and Tennessee aren't exactly business meccas. If you tariff their bourbon and whiskey exports they'll be crying to their local MAGA congressman or senator in short order.

Canada did the exact same last Trump term when he tariffed them. Lasted about as long too.

We should target the swing states rather than the deep red ones.

Anything that maximizes the economic pain for his supporters (including Musk et al) should be on the table. They're the type of people who need to be hit in their pockets. Appeals to decency are a waste of breath.

The biggest data breach of all.
Elon Musk ordered the Treasury to grant him access to the financial data system. Treasury secretary Bessant ordered an employee to hand over the system to Musk. He refused and was promptly placed on leave. The treasury then handed over the entire system to Musk.
This system contains sensitive data on anyone who has financial dealings
with the treasury. Taxpayers, retirees, people on benefits….just about everybody. The data includes names, addresses, emails, transaction records, bank details, etc etc.
So, a random third party now has all your sensitive data that you entrusted to the treasury. It goes without saying that this is a breach of the privacy Act 1974 and the treasury rules and policies.
Big big big actions have been lodged with the court.
Await a class action from millions of citizens.
I can think of nothing worse that a government could do.
A lawless criminal and his gang now rule the U.S.

This is fucking scary on a wide variety of levels, in part enabled by the one guy Trump selected (Bessent) who I thought might have some smarts.

Does the info now available to him include Businesses?

Looks like he’s been given access to all areas. Reminds me of UEFA and PL allowing the likes of the Rags, Dippers, Arsenal, et al, having access to our commercial business interests.

From the outside, this would be a scandal. From the inside, do they care?

I read that currently Musk and co just have read only access to the payment systems. Once they get full control which appears inevitable, a bigger proportion of MAGA nuts are going to see their social security and Medicaid dry up than the general population. Then it will get interesting.
Some of them might even begin to realise that Trump is not looking out for them, but who knows?
