US Politics Thread

There is a back story here with MAGA world lawyers.

There are a huge number of people in the Trump world orbit getting sued - massive costs being paid out. Trump and the Republican party are trying to keep a handle on all of it. They want to know what evidence is in circulation and who might have criminal exposure and could be flipped. So the lawyers are selected on the basis they are on side with the party. But its increasingly difficult to get decent lawyers who will agree to essentially have an eye on the bigger picture and report in to trump / party HQ possibly at the detriment to their clients. Many have walked away due to the lack of fees but also to distance themselves from the shit show.

Hadn't considered the payment issues from Trumpworld, but I did wonder why a legal firm would want to be seen to oppose the Sandy Hook families on this.

Just wondering...

What do you think about the following political tactic: during primaries, where your political opponent is decided, donate money to a candidate in the opposite party whom you feel is so outlandish/extreme that he or she cannot possibly win election.

My take - this is foul play.

A partial solution - open up primaries. Everyone can vote. Even members of the opposite party.

Your thoughts?
Well it seems like one of the many reasons that campaign donations should be regulated. For me, I'd ban any sort of political donation from companies/institutions/organisations, and then limit the amount that any single person can donate. So if you want a well funded campaign, you have to convince a large number of people to support your campaign financially, rather than one or two rich backers who you will inevitably pay back once you get into power.

Jones only used his Infowars show to reel in feeble minded gullible right wing extremist hicks, fill their empty heads with vitriolic bullshit and then spend half his airtime promoting his fake health supplements that the fucking idiots buy and line his pockets.

And now there's a solid case for a $200m + judgement - fucking delicious!

As an aside - WTF! How incompetent can a law firm be to have texted the entire content of a defendant's phone records to the claimant's attorney?

They are his 11th set of lawyers. One by one they drop him. Then he instructs new ones and they drop him and so it goes on - he must be in Lionel Hutz territory now.

That's what we do in CA. I can choose to vote in the Republican primary despite being a registered Democrat, and did so in 2016 to vote for Kasich to keep Trump out of the slot (which didn't work).

Incidentally, I think you need to come off your assumption that Joe Biden is running for President in 2024. The fretting over X vs. Biden is a waste of time until you know if he's running or not. I think it's 50/50, at best.

$4.1m in damages for inforwars.

The parents lawyer says they're hoping for 10-15x as much in punitive damages.

There are 19 other sets of parents.
