Trump won Florida by roughly 13 points, which is 10 more than in 2020.

Texas also moved 10 points in his favor.

He won Ohio by about 11 points, 3 more than in 2020.

Big Blue states?

New York moved 13 points toward him.

Virginia shifted 6 points in his direction.

Sadly, this was a Big Red Wave…or more accurately, a BIG TRUMP WAVE!
Where were the missing voters?

Due to the long format, I think podcasts are much less stage managed than short TV interviews. Probably one of the reasons Kamala avoided it. Politicians will generally try to avoid or minimise appearances on TV networks that are not 'friendly forces'. I agree with your general point though about the move from things like news night to more 'showbiz' things. Its probably much more pleasant to take questions on your favourite food or hobbies than fiscal policy etc.
Well yeah, but it's supposed to be a job interview, not a nice chat.

They're not stage managed in the way a TV appearance is, but they are stage managed in the sense that they know that the person presenting it will not be able to challenge them on the issues. Joe Rogan isn't doing weeks of research with a team of people to prepare for his interview.

It's also worth mentioning that most people are not watching the full 3 hours, they're watching it after it has been snipped up and put on social media in short clips.

Huh?

Do you mean the 13M that didn’t vote for her, but did for Biden?

If so, they forgot just how badly they wanted Trump out 4 years ago, and didn’t “feel” Harris, I guess.

I think it was more “Joe Rogan” that caught the ire, not “podcast.”

The guy is an uber-bro, who sits around shooting the shit while smoking stogies and alluding to conspiracy theories. Every once in a while, you find a nugget, a good quote, or even some semblance of insight, but rarely.

Thankfully, YouTube clips generally cover the interesting 3 minutes in the 3 hrs of garbage you have to get through to find it…if it exists at all.
I think Joe Rogan was already on the liberal blacklist for his comments during the pandemic about horse medicine and his willingness to give a platform to instead of no platform various people. I don't think the trump one told us anything we didn't know, but appearing on organs cast probably gave him and especially the new VP positive exposure in what is perceived as a less contrived environment than partisan TV shows. I think I'm the only person in here that has actually admitted listening to the podcast as I had a long drive to kill, but I bet I'm not the only one that did and their in lies the challenge. Trump, musk and Rogan etc have effectively been declared as pariahs and loons but this has shut down discussion rather than viewing figures it seems.

I remember someone denying that he was overly-platforming conspiracy theories, claiming that he has a range of views on his show. So I had a quick look (thankfully, someone has catalogued his episodes by expertise of the guests), and for the subject we were talking about at the time (ancient civilizations), he had literally only had guests on that are accused of being conspiracy theorists. I think something like 8 out of 10 were the same guy.

Which is fine, if that's what you're into. I get why conspiracy theories can be fun, but don't try and play the 'all sides' card.

Yes, but the same happens with TV. Take Kamala's 60 minutes appearance. You can go on YouTube and find edited highlights from both her friends and enemies that portray that appearance very differently.
I think you miss the point of the podcast format. It's not to drill down into policy detail or difficult topics for 10 mins, it's more about just getting the subject to talk and giving them enough rope to hang themselves. Rogans podcast with conspiracy nur Alex Jones is a great example. Rather than attack his views, Rogan just gave the guy a bottle of whiskey and let him go down the rabbit holes himself.

You’re right in terms of one being like an aggressive interview and the other being a chat. But both have their appeal and I would argue we, as the general public, are given greater insight into our public figures more than ever (perhaps that’s why politics in general seems more depressing than ever as no one is living up to much).

Without podcasts no politician is given 2-3 hours airtime anywhere. When politicians are interviewed most people don’t even watch in its entirety and often just read headlines or listen to sound bites, which are naturally the most sensationalist or key parts often take out of context. I personally find it refreshing to listen to a podcast where you have a deeper insight into the general personality of a politician. I also find it refreshing to listen to a politician in an environment where they aren’t being “battled” and shouted down by the other side every 2 mins.

Joe rogan doesn’t do intense research, he doesn’t grill, he doesn’t argue, he doesn’t live fact check. Interviewees are largely left to talk about what they like. But it’s true that has its pros and cons. Now I’ve listened to Trump on there (I found him personally waffly and incoherent, often answering questions with questions but it’s true he’s more unguarded) and then I’ve listened to Bernie sanders. And wow - there’s a smart intelligent politician. Sanders got across major political points and we had a really deep analysis of his politics. With trump we didn’t. But that’s Rogan’s style - point being he allows his interviewees to make as little or as much of the opportunity to chat for 2-3 hours. And then his listeners can take away what they want from that but it’s not manufactured and it’s not controlled. Podcasts add a lot of value to the political discourse IMO.

And I’m sure Kamala is regretting not doing the Rogan podcast! What I like about Joe is he allows both sides to come on and chat despite his own political leanings. Kamala had an open door to go on but her people only wanted a 45 min chat allegedly and rogan had to go to her. He historically only does 2-3 hour chats at his studio. He wants to avoid those controlled and PR stunty types of interviews you get on traditional media and I respect that stance.

Well yeah, and I think some people are good at that. I'd imagine someone like Louis Theroux would be like that, but I don't get that from Joe Rogan. Most of the time, he seems to just go along with whatever his guest is saying and accept it at face value. Admittedly, it's been a while since I watched him.
