Everyone keeps saying they fucked up. I’m getting tired of asking the same question.

No one has offered a winning solution to a candidate willing to lie and lie and lie and lie and millions who believe him.

Lay out your strategy for how you’d have defeated him then.

And don’t moan about Biden’s late exit — I already said he should have dropped out at the latest after the midterms back then.

I’m all ears — we all are.
+1
And honestly, I think that if Biden had declined to run for reelection from the get-go, it wouldn't have mattered.

As for more aggressively calling out Trump's lies - that too would not have worked. About 1/2 of America gets its news from Fox et all. They're either never going to hear that Trump is lying, or if they do hear, they either won't believe it or won't care or both.

It's not as if there are voters out there thinking, "Son-of-a-woman! You mean Trump's a liar? Had I known, I'd never have voted for him."

It'll be interesting to see what approach Dems take in 2026, assuming we still have a functional democracy at that point.

Do you think people should be free to express racist views?
Yes. You appear to disagree.

Whom do you think should decide who can say what, and to whom?

While certain language can be deemed unseemly, and usually counterproductive, it seems to me that society should be the culture police, with society deciding (albeit without legal recourse) that certain activities in the public square are deemed beneath us and subject to derision, and thus the purveyors of such are treated accordingly, by being ignored.

Now, one might think that this has the potential to expose us to bad ideas, and I hope it does, as I’d much prefer bad ideas, “bad words,” and their possible corruption of others be as open as possible, wouldn’t you? After all, how does society respond unless it’s open enough to know it, see it and hear it TO decry it?

Whilst I would have voted for Harris (if I was a US citizen) I actually don't think criticising people for turning and voting for the other party is healthy nor productive. The question you want to be asking is why?

‘The desire to be led by a strong personality in a crisis, the craving for our existence to have some kind of purpose, the quasi worship of heroes & celebrities, the longing for salvation and redemption: none of this has changed since the death of Hitler in 1945.’

To wish someone dead/shot is an absolute vile and abhorrent thing to say, irrespective of their beliefs, especially considering there a parent and grandparent, the poor Fireman dying was a tragedy, but blame the shooter not Trump.
I glad my American friends and family did the right thing and voted for Trump..
You were doing so well until the last bit.

Then, a question arises. Presumably Trump would bring an end to sanctions. What does Europe do then? If we acquiesce, then Russia, complete with its Ukrainian province, has won hands down.
Yes, the sanctions issue is an even more challenging one for European nations. If there isn’t the will to make up the difference in military spending necessitated by withdrawal of US support then that’s a fairly binary position, but presumably any ‘deal’ will involve the lifting of sanctions which would (I feel) be hugely controversial and unpopular in Europe as it would mean Russia being seen to profit from her truculence.

The whole issue of the withdrawal of US support for Ukraine is far more nuanced than it is painted by people who think it’s as straightforward as Trump picking up the phone to Putin.
