Really?? One game? Nothing proved yet,far from it,Mario is still a plum, albeit one who appears to be listening to good advice and acting upon it.

I hope he continues and becomes the player we crave, however, everything that has been said so far has been fully deserved.Exactly the same for recent negative comments on our tactics and approach - all deserved.

Yesterday he managed to provide the football many have been crying out for - so he gets the credit, that's how it works.....
Agree 100%. Nobody WANTS to see Bob sacked because his failure is our failure. I,along with many others, was getting tired of watching us play over cautious, negative football. If he reverts back to one up front and chokes the midfield next monday at anfield and we don't get a win, I'll criticise his tactics again.
Sunderland at home is a different prospect to Liverpool away. You have to approach the game differently.

We might be the better team now, but we will be away and Liverpool are no mugs. I don't know how we will approach the game but I trust the manager.

I don't know where you get the idea that City are a boring team from. We play good football, and are one of the top scorers in the Premiership. You should remember that Aj and Balotelli have missed big chunks of the season which reduces our options, and we are still a team being built. We are unbalanced perhaps in midfield. That's not Mancini's falt because he team is a work in progress.

You should also allow for fatigue. Do you think it was coincidence that City played well after a break?

And what about Utd's tactics in the Maine Rd derby when they just played Berbatov upfront, and he dropped deep into a 6 man midfield for some of the time. It's not always City's fault when the game is dour

Shall I light the sky blue touch paper then?

He had an average game yesterday, did OK but not what I would expect from a £24m purchase destined to be one of the best players in the world.

And forgive me for not getting aroused by his ability to NOT get booked or sent off.

He has however had very much worse games so a small step in the right direction.

I hope that helps? ;-)

Sorry for being pedantic but was the fee we paid for him not reported as £22.5 million?

on Inter books there are Euro 20.6 M , then there will are bonuses...

So whose fault is it?

Mancini had ample opportunity in Jan to address the imbalances that were obvious to many and he failed to do so.
He has even stated today that AJ is the only capable player of his type, citing his unavailability as hugely influential on our tactics and results.
Couple the above with no cover for Silva.....

That lack of foresight was a huge gamble that may still not pay off.

you could win the euro's and still be unhappy with something, so on that basis, your point is invalid when it comes to mario :)

Average is a little unfair. He could have easily scored 5 goals. A goal bound shot blocked, then a good chance when he chose to place it instead of blasting it. His effort led to Silva's goal. He accelerated past 2-3 defenders then fired a hard shot in from an angle at Mognolet, and then he made a good run that won a free-kick from which he nearly scored. There were other contributions as well.

You forget he has had an operation and has had 2 lengthy absences. He's a young player in a foreign country facing a lot of hostility. And his fee is down to his ability.

Remember Ronaldo in his 1st season? Mario can follow the same path. If anything he is ahead of where Ronaldo was

Dont really want to be pedantic, but to put what you said in simple terms.

He could have scored five if it wasnt for their keeper.

well shit the bed....

For Ballo is an out and out striker - for me he does not contribute enough in terms of assists / team play maybe hopefully this will come

And I find it weird that someone would defend him by pointing out that he missed 5 decent opportunties to score.

Maybe we overpaid if that is taken as his average conversion rate.

( and before people get their knickers in a twist I am being deliberately pedantic in a hopefully endearing and humorous way. )

-- Tue Apr 05, 2011 12:45 am --

Should I extinguish it by saying he puts the shits up any team playing against him as they know he can ruin them with a flash of brilliance? Balo is a tour de force which is going to be unleashed...plenty of what he did yesterday suggests that. Lets hope it happens in the semi.

Well to be truthful what we saw his Balo play OK against a truly shockingly poor Sunderland defence.

So nope, the touch paper burns brightly still.

That lack of foresight was a huge gamble that may still not pay off.

Responsibility for player recruitment is shared between Mike Rigg, Brian Marwood, Mancini and at least one other. It's not clear if any one of them has more say than the other. In fact I would suggest that Cook and then Khaldoon are responsible for saying yay or nay to purchases, as they have the responsibility to manage the finances. So it's at more than possible that if Mancini wanted another player, he might not have got his way. The committee might not agree on the target. If the target was not available in the window, or the club/agent were being silly, they may well decide to wait. Even if Mancini wanted someone, anyone, they could easily say 'No, you have enough to do your job for now'. Khaldoon or Cook might say no, we have a financial target this year. Or The Sheik could simply say, umm, I don't want to spend any more right now.
