Usual suspects

So whose fault is it?

Mancini had ample opportunity in Jan to address the imbalances that were obvious to many and he failed to do so.
He has even stated today that AJ is the only capable player of his type, citing his unavailability as hugely influential on our tactics and results.
Couple the above with no cover for Silva.....

That lack of foresight was a huge gamble that may still not pay off.

Responsibility for player recruitment is shared between Mike Rigg, Brian Marwood, Mancini and at least one other. It's not clear if any one of them has more say than the other. In fact I would suggest that Cook and then Khaldoon are responsible for saying yay or nay to purchases, as they have the responsibility to manage the finances. So it's at more than possible that if Mancini wanted another player, he might not have got his way. The committee might not agree on the target. If the target was not available in the window, or the club/agent were being silly, they may well decide to wait. Even if Mancini wanted someone, anyone, they could easily say 'No, you have enough to do your job for now'. Khaldoon or Cook might say no, we have a financial target this year. Or The Sheik could simply say, umm, I don't want to spend any more right now.

Brian Marwood holds the key to any transfers - he can call on almost any resource he needs to to get the best information and best deal for the club.

Although Mancini (and any CIty manager employed by ADUG) has his opinions on players the list of possible new recruits is far from his own.

It will be really interesting to see what happens in the summer window though as then the old excuse of 'top players need champions league' will come crashing against the hardened City attitude of leaving players alone who have previously said no.

You should remember that Aj and Balotelli have missed big chunks of the season which reduces our options, and we are still a team being built. We are unbalanced perhaps in midfield. That's not Mancini's falt because he team is a work in progress.

January isn't the best time to go building your squad. We should all realize that. Wouldn't do much good to get poor cover for AJ or to overpay for cover either. Sometimes you do have to ride with what you got.

I agree that Marwood is the key figure in some regards, but he has publicly played down his role. I imagine part of that is deflecting the idea that he is interfering with what the English press would assume to be the Manager's domain, and presumably he doesn't want the responsibility if they flop, but I think there is more than a grain of truth in it. They have to collaborate.

I knew some i***t would put up a post like this one. ONE good performance and those who have criticised the manager for many many inept performances and stiffling the life out of our players and all in the garden is rosy again....
The win against Sunderland merely hammered home the exact points that myself and many others had been saying for a long time. ] Let the players play and we'll see better performances. Let them play with tempo and we'll rip teams to shreds. Let them express themselves without fear and compromise and their natural takents will shine. It happened on sunday but why so late in the season? Why after so many months has Mancini suddenly decided to change his whole philosophy? Was it Mancini? Or was it related to Kaldoons speech on the morning of the game? We'll never know.
All I can say is that it was a refreshing performance BUT let's see what happens at Liverpool, at home to Spurs, against the filth at wembley etc etc before we all get excited. If Mancini sends them out in those gamnes and plays the sterile negaive football we are used to then nothing chanmges, yet if he sends them out like against Sunderland to at least try to win with style then i'll back him....I and many others await with bated breath.................

Shall I light the sky blue touch paper then?

He had an average game yesterday, did OK but not what I would expect from a £24m purchase destined to be one of the best players in the world.

And forgive me for not getting aroused by his ability to NOT get booked or sent off.

He has however had very much worse games so a small step in the right direction.

I hope that helps? ;-)

Nail on the head.

People are creaming themselves because he behaved.

I have huge doubts over his ability as well as his attitude, although the positive from Sunday was that he just might be able to be judged on his ability.

I suspect also that in the back of many peoples minds will be the further question of 'Why have we had to wait for this? Why in the last few games of the season?' Was the whole thing dependant on AJ being fit?

If we only get the Sunderland game to crow about then we all have the answers we need.

If we go on to even more great performances then we have even more questions to be answered IMO.

The irony is that we actually bought AJ in January. I am sure if the right deal was available we would have gone for it.

Lets not get carried away with 1 game, BUT, fbloke your wrong on this mate, Mario played very well yesterday, the fact is he is such a good player he is capable of anything, but yesterday was good enough for me, for starters.

Agreed. Actually in some ways I reckon his unpredictability works in his and our favour. How do you think you would feels seeing Balo lining up opposite you and knowing what he's capable of?

Btw....I havent seen anyone (him/the management or any of us) crowing about him not being booked so its kinda lame to suggest it.

I agree completely.
