UWCL ST Polten V CITY (A) 16-10-24 KO 1745

Not a great performance but the win was all that mattered. Shame we had to bring out the big guns to get it done. Bunny looked knackered about 10mins after she came on. Another full 90mins for Hasegawa again. Really need to find some way of getting her a rest too.
Maybe we can now thats Roord is back. She's getting progressively sharper each game. Was good when she came on tonight. Yui is a little diamond though, she's the women's equivalent of Rodri, seems to be everywhere and runs the game.

I dont get this Taylor hate myself its unjustified in my opinion. We play some lovely stuff and when our first 11 is on the pitch we are a match for anyone. Unlucky not to win the League last year and it wasn't his decisions that cost us, it was a couple of utterly shit refereeing decisions versus Chelsea and players fucking up individually in 2 games, namely Arsenal at home and Brighton away, both games we should have and deserved to win but lost down to fuck ups. Keating as well for Arsenal away which we should have drawn. Chelsea have a stronger squad than us currently, its arguable Arsenal do as well but we can beat either in one off games.

We were 10 times better than them tonight but for some wonder saves and the woodwork that could and should have been about six or seven. Football can be a strange game, they'd done fuck all to deserve being 2-1 up, seconds a good finish made from a shit cross into a crowded penalty area. If she meant that thigh control to steer onto her left foot shes playing for the wrong team.

It's another demo, if we need it, that failing to finish chances at this level can be terminal for your aspirations of progressing. Bunny looked she had boots on the wrong feet when she came on for some odd reason.

Had them chasing shadows for the last 20 minutes with some lovely 1 touch stuff. I thought our overall play was good but there was too many changes for my liking, 3 or 4 should have been the maximum not 7. Delighted for Fujino and Fowler to grab a goal apiece.

3 points and onwards we go. We'll get better the longer this tournament goes on in my opinion. The next one against Hammarby will be a test. Swedish womens sides are usually decent. WIn that and we're in business. We should hope Barca tonk them later.

Aleixandri is Hasegawa's only natural backup and as she's also playing every game then I fear something will have to give at some point. It's fantastic to have Roord back fit again but we'll have to be careful not to overuse her too. Don't really see her as a DM though.

With regards to the Taylor hate, some of it is a legacy feeling with us throwing away chances at silverware under his stewardship (most notably the league last season). He just doesn't know how to utilise a squad properly. Even tonight he threw in 6 changes with players that have hardly any minutes under their belt for the most part. We're just not going to put in a fluent performance under those circumstances. While for most of the games this season he's set things up well but need to be utilising the subs bench better in games to keep the fringe players more involved and up to speed. As has been said elsewhere, he tends to have his favourite 11 and fails to look beyond that.

I'm assuming you saw the goal Yamashita conceded in the league against Liverpool? A shot from distance not far into the goal centre?

No, she's not the better shot stopper.
Yes I did, doesn’t make her a bad keeper though, the defence trust her.
Keating causes panic and uncertainty that spreads throughout the defence as shown again tonight.
Looks like she’s put a bit of timber on as well, that probably doesn’t help her…

Personally I thought Keating was one if the star performers last season. Also the golden glove winner last season, with some cracking saves too.
As for Yamashita (and yes i do think she a good keeper) and the defence trusting each other, well I don't, the amount of times they have nearly messed up messing about at the back this season already make me nervous !

It's not all on Keating, one of the best defenders in the WSL was guilty tonight, led to needless corner that led to a goal. I thought some of the defending tonight (and they didn't have to do that much) was shambolic.

My biggest worry is why we can't put the ball in the net, but it's an ongoing theme throughout the club, yet every now and then they hit nearly everything in.

Wasn't saying Keating was at fault for anything tonight (to may fair , I only caught the 2nd half).
But was saying, I thought Keating was great last season behind a great defence. So I didn't really see her position as a problem that we needed a new keeper this season ?
