Vacuum cleaner coming on if it’s own accord!

ooh spooky. I was sitting here wandering if somethiing was going on with the electric supply. my fusebox started to hum very loudly about an hour ago. it hasn't done that in years. I sorted it out with a gentle tap on the problem area, and a plastic shim. but I genuinely can hear that AC hum coming from my (seemingly) several of my neighbours.
Sometimes you can hear the laminations in transformers humming. One of the weirdest ones you can get is if someone put a load on the supply which creates a lot of harmonics. Can remember years ago going out and doing a site investigation where peoples kettles on a street were all humming every so often. Turned out that a guy on the street was into making his own pottery and had bought a small kiln which each time he fired it up was causing distortion on a particular phase from the local substation.

Remember a newspaper story from 80’s of some guy who turned up at A&E with an hoover stuck fast and hanging off his odd trick. Claimed the “accident” had happened after he’d tripped up when doing the hoovering in a loose fitting dressing gown.
It’s a common injury apparently and every single one is cause by tripping up and skewering the nozzle.

People turn up at casualty with a wide range of things stuck up their dicks and bums and ladies not as bad as men , gives the nurses a titter , lol
My ex mother in law genuinely fell while decorating and finished up with a broken jam jar embedded in her labia. Casualty didn’t believe her.

Sounds about right.

Random silly electronics chat; I've got an old Arcam AV amp. About 15 years old. Proper brute, built like a battleship. The power supply and so on is over specc'd, and the whole thing weighs about 12kg.

Love it to bits. Sadly, these incredible amps have a handful of design flaws. One in particular (partly the choice of hugely overspecc'd but rubbish quality caps) means it pumps out heat like no ones business, even at idle. But that's ok, because it just so happens my lounge radiator is flaking out anyway, so my beloved DIVA is currently (ha) earning it's keep providing just enough gentle warmth to keep the room livable.

I hear it all the time here in the summer. Took me about 20 years to realise it was cicadas.

You know @blue for life is just trying to get his alibi in place now. Honest doc it did just turn itself on, see I’d posted on BM about it. If only I’d remembered to put me undercrackers on after getting out the shower none of this would have happened. Honest.

Perhaps it was trying to break free
