Var debate 2019/20

VAR can work if.......

Communication is 100% transparent to the crowd especially and to those watching on tv.

What tech is being used for offsides and what is it’s accuracy?

Why the secrecy?

Why can’t communications between the officials be broadcast in real time?

Probably too much like real transparency ?

There is no secrecy, all the premier league players went to the seminar/launch day where they detailed how it works and the accuracy etc.

That’s good to know but it would still be reasonable for the 50k in the stadium and those watching at home to be involved and updated. We are after all involved in paying the wages

This was talked about yesterday, great, but what about showing us the paying public how it all works ? There doesn't seem to have been any attempt to do that, not by PGMOL, or by broadcasters. If the players and managers are"very happy" quoting Walton yesterday, then there is some secrecy, and it will lead to scepticism.

I'm in favour of it with all those points, the good thing is that we aren't seeing the farce that became the women's world cup (so far anyway), but with most of the games played this weekend now, I find it a little suspect that ours is the one where it seems to have been used most, and in some ways controversially. There's been a couple of checks in this newcastle v arsenal game, none of which had any impact on the game or the time, and the crowd probably aren't even aware.

This has been so over complicated it’s pathetic.

VAR rules should be black & white and the freeze frame they use for all offsides should be transparent and predetermined by the FA (e.g. the first freeze frame when the ball has clearly left the passers foot will be the one we use to determine whether a player is offside or not). Be honest and transparent with football fans and tell them there is a small margin of error because of the 25/30 frames per second and everyone will be happy as long as it’s consistent and not just made up as we go along like yesterday.

The problem is inconsistency, nothing else. Inconsistency can lead to question marks over the validity of VAR decisions and also brings into question the integrity of the match day officials (on-field or in a van), a predetermined error of margin is acceptable.

Call me bitter and twisted but I would not feel comfortable in putting any money on that being given offside now.
Did anyone see the debate with one of the refs this week? They showed the Liverpool goal at Southampton When Salah I think it was was clearly offside before they scored and he said a goal would be given as it wasn’t in the last phase of play before the goal.
You’re bitter and twisted and may I add, possibly paranoid.
