Var debate 2019/20

whether it is mm or the thickness of the lines, where the elbow starts etc etc, it's the new thing to debate but.... It WILL stop this sort of thing in future

I would put money on VAR "not working" when this sort of thing happens for Liverpool

I said the "daylight rule" back in 1994 should be applied a while ago to VAR, neville will never have a good idea of his own, just states the obvious.
Are we talking same Neville? I meant Neville on here not the rag one. Daylight rule line behind last man, all the same, enables margin of var error to be applied

Are people 100% going to stop watching or going to football because of VAR? Seriously, or is it just a knee jerk reaction to yesterday's game?

If this has ruined your enjoyment of the game I'm wondering why the players rolling around on the floor feigning injury hasn't? Or the ridiculous time wasting that goes on with throw ins, corners, free kicks and goal kicks? They waste more time than VAR ever will. As for the decisions won't go against Liverpool or the Rags, well only time will tell. If after 19 games you can prove the Dippers have had offside goals not ruled out then fair enough give the game up, but for now why not just let it be?

According to the FA... Website

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched**

And

The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

Surely it cannot be that difficult to implement technology that automatically identifies which frame was the first touch of the ball and take that judgment out of the hands of a human operator. Actually to ensure benefit of doubt is given to the attacking side it should be the frame before the first touch.

Sorry I thought you were on about one of the shithouse nevilles.

I agree if bodies are 90% overlapping there is no offside. It used to be level meant offside, then level was onside, then daylight then back to level onside. However two players can never be level according to the premier league, although other sports will give dead heats who have been doing it for 200 years.

The idiots at Var need to be shown that Andy Gray analysis. It has flaws and its not perfect. Both of those goals were onside and offside depending on when the ball left the foot. My fear is a goal can be chalked off depending on the "allegiances" of the person analyzing the video. I hope to god there's more than one person looking at it.

99% of them will not give up. And if they do, the others will take their place. I bet there was about 50 different things fans were "giving up" because in last 50 years. And never gave up. Only money and health can do that. And when money or health finally caught them, there is a new generation in line that is much more friendly to technology as it is used to take a shit using some app.

The point is they were 'moaning' after we had won 5-0. That shows how stupid the reviews were. Football is all about emotion, if they remove that from a live game then sitting on your sofa with a brew and a chocolate biscuit seems a far better option than spending £150 and 12 hours of your weekend to watch the same game.

The incidents you mention make a fan respond and get involved usually shouting at the player/official, VAR is removing that instantaneous passion. I forget which midweek game it was last season but we had about 5 goals VAR'd and it just made it stale.

Rugby just now showing how VAR should work, TMO says not clear so we’ll stick with refereee decision

It's infant technology use so mistakes will happen. It's not perfect situation, but it will definitely be better than corrupt refs without any technology check. The biggest problem is the fact it's hard to celebrate goals, but I'd take that over watching yard offsides not given like in West ham vs Liverpool last season.
It opens up additional avenues for corruption as Andy Gray demonstrated with the choice of frame then there the option to show on-field ref certain angles Until the technology improves to remove the human element then it actually makes it worse

The human element saw margins of error measured in feet. Now it's mm. but yeah I am not sure they've solved the problem

Hopefully not too many really tight calls that will ultimately change games.

Call me bitter and twisted but I would not feel comfortable in putting any money on that being given offside now.
Did anyone see the debate with one of the refs this week? They showed the Liverpool goal at Southampton When Salah I think it was was clearly offside before they scored and he said a goal would be given as it wasn’t in the last phase of play before the goal.

Without VAR we wouldn't have got the penalty, Dean wouldn't have given it, he very nearly didn't even though it looked a clear trip, but he then realised after a significant delay that VAR would review it, and to prevent him looking a fool (cheat) gave it, knowing that if it was wrong VAR would reverse it, and he could book Mahrez for a dive.

VAR can work if.......

Communication is 100% transparent to the crowd especially and to those watching on tv.

What tech is being used for offsides and what is it’s accuracy?

Why the secrecy?

Why can’t communications between the officials be broadcast in real time?
