VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

In our match, what do you think Var would have intervened on ?
I don't think any of the wrong decisions would have been overturned.
Don't see how we dont get a penalty with var in operation but it's pointless speculating on what may or may not have happened nor does it really matter, var eliminates the excuse of human error, there's no reason to be against that.

does it tho, alot of times it means that its just a different human making the error

Astounded there's still anti-var opinions. This weekend is a horrendous Insight into the shitshow we would see on a weekly basis without it.
It was a glorious insight in to how we all used to go fucking mental when a goal was scored.
Now it’s a thoroughly depressing wait to see how a goal can be ruled out. They’re desperate to find anything/ some minor infringement.

VAR eliminating human error!!!!!!!

Make VAR independent of PiGMOL.

It would work without those cunts thinking about their career/fantasy football scores influencing another redshirt check.

Not sure how that could work? You’d have professional VARs who don’t ever referee? Would you even want a non referee in that job? Bear in mind also, that there are usually only 10 games per week in the whole of England that require a VAR.

There are actually moving towards specialist VARs. There’s a guy whose name I forget who has been getting a lot of VAR appointments in big games, who isn’t a Premier League referee.

I didn't say it eliminates human error, I said it eliminates the excuse of human error.

Yeah all those crucial goals in crucial games on our way to winning the lot since var's introduction has been a "thoroughly depressing wait" must have imagined all the celebrating.

His name is Strabismus.

Then we will have to agree to disagree then.
Like you I thought it was a clear penalty but I have no faith in Var telling him to go to the monitor.

My point is whether they would have given it or not via var, there's no hiding behind human error with var. there's a higher level of scrutiny towards their decisions when they have the opportunity to have a second look.

Look at that united decision, with no var, they can just say human error and that's it, nothing else can be done, everybody moves on. with var, you can say here's your chance to rectify the error and there's no justifiable reason not to correct it. If they somehow don't, huge questions are then asked.

Still have to accept that even with the best officials on the pitch and on the monitor mistakes will be made, there will always be a gaffe - That’s not a reason to chuck tech help in the bin as without VAR we’re just assigned to bonkers decisions week in week out.

Agreed. The argument against seems to be " we can't be 100% perfect so there's no point in being better" which is just a completely mental mindset.

Apply that logic to anything else and it becomes laughable.

I would welcome 3-4 weeks without VAR - the noise for ‘this is why we need VAR’ would be deafening.

I accept what you say or i would apart from your last line. Questions are never asked with any honesty. They stifle a laugh and say we will learn from the error IF they even admit an error. Usually they use the simple excuses that are regularly trotted out.

When there was a clear and obvious referee/var error (cough) in the Derby that time at the swamp it wasn't even fully admitted.

The equipment is not up to standard and the people using it even worse.
