VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Anywhere else on the pitch and that is given as a foul, and usually a card for deliberate foul

same for pretty much every tussle for every corner, would be a penalty every time. Refs give way to soft free kicks and let alot go in the pen box. Its always been that way.

It’s got to the stage were they don’t even hide it anymore, check every angle like they do in rugby while talking to the TMO (VAR) and it’s replayed in the ground for the fans to see and hear, football no we’ll just look at this ONE angle bugger the others which show an actual foul with shirt pulling, corruption what else can it be as it certainly isn’t incompetence, they know fine well what they are doing..

Saw on MOTD, clear dive from Young (as usual) ridiculous theatrical swan lake stuff. He wore a red shirt and Manchester United were awarded a penalty. VAR told the ref to have a look. It’s still the refs ultimate choice and he saw replay and deemed it worth a penalty. Regardless of who it’s for or against all I want is the ref to have a second look at major decisions even if they are clear and obvious- you can argue there was a shirt pull , enough to send a grown bloke doing a gold medal dive.

You're right, it has always been that way and the game got along very well.
But now we have var to spot these fouls (although the ref didn't need it to spot this particular one yesterday) and get every decision right.

It's a bit odd that you defend var by saying 'its always been this way

I want VAR to correct a clear wrong decision or just tell the ref to have a second look on some contentious ones. That’s all.

'Penalty'

'Madders we thing Young dived. Go and have a look'

'He was pulled. It's a penalty'

'Go and look at the screen'

'Ok Donno... Where's the pull?'.

'You must have imagined it mate. This is all the angels we've got...'

'Oh...ok...'

*Whistles* 'No Penalty!'
Thought var didn't get involved with the refs onfield decision now unless a clear and obvious error has occurred? Yet they tell him he's made an error and tell him to go to the monitor and don't show him all available angles , the only thing clear and obvious is someones incompetence or cheating in plain sight , look at how yesterday's incident panned out compared to rashfords offside goal against us or wolves being denied a pen at the swamp last season

Its a shame really but they've ruined a fantastic sport.
Might aswell watch wrestling

Yesterday no penalty for Everton is proof that the game is corrupt And I do not say that because I am a Toffee. We see it time and time again. If it was up the other end of the pitch then they would have given it. Gotta keep them teams in red happy.
When I saw it at first I thought 50/50 that's given, but he gave it. What I and I think most football fan now would like to know is, on what grounds was it then overturned? Replays don't really show anything clear or obvious that wasn't apparent in real time.

As you say, if that's at the other end then they're falling over themselves to give it.

The key to this was the var knobs didn’t show the ref the one angle which clearly showed the shirt pull. I’m not really a conspiracy believer but that was incredibly suspicious.

Was it Casimero took Akanji out in the FA cup final, studs high, and the ref gave them the foul instead of sending casimero off and giving us the free kick? No intervention from VAR despite the replay being shown live on tv? The other one that always sticks in my mind is blatant trip by Milner on Foden whilst already on a yellow card. Clear and obvious error but in VAR world nothing to see.

Jones 3rd goal would have killed the game, can’t blame the lino - was very very tight. VAR check was about 30 seconds. Before VAR that is 3-0.

Var was very strange, shit as usual but also strange.
They actually showed a still of our goal and how it was offside. I have never seen that before and of course nothing shown for their 3rd goal.

Should have been two pens - one for the foul by Slabhead and then as soon as that was converted another pen for the foul by de Ligt. My ERO texted me and said every pundit said it was a pen. VAR is now a truncation of the word VARIABLE', and why did the VAR check on that blatantly offside goal today take so long. One fuckin' line drawn and he's two yards off!
