VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Sorry, that is not clearly offside, that is very tight.
The lino kept his flag down because he thought it was onside - hence he never raised it when the goal went in.
VAR kept it at 2-0, if there really is corruption wouldn't they scrap VAR and just let the lino flag offside ? be way easier.

Clearly offside for everyone sat near me we just wondered what it took so long

What I dont understand is how they change the rules all the time since var was introduced.

Tech will always look at ways to improve and evolve, that's always been a massive benefit for me.

I thought the ruling this season was var wont get involved with the refs onfield decision UNLESS theres been a clear and obvious error.

That has been the case this season for sure, it's been much better and let the game flowed - Yes a few examples where VAR has intervened like the Everton non penalty which is a bit subjective - personally felt he flew in the air so ridiculously it was never a pen - i know some can argue there was a shirt pull and that's enough.

fa still not implemented the semi auto offside tech in the prem

It's coming - i'd rather they didn't rush these things and slowly implement changes, just bring it in for cups for now etc.
One thing i criticize is that they rushed VAR too quickly into the game - they should have just implemented offsides for season 1, then red card decisions season 2 etc.

no wonder fans are pissed off and confused

With or without tech help for refs... that will never change.
What’s this tech help?
It’s a ref watching a video and they can freeze and slow motion
Using slow motion and freeze frame to determine a “clear and obvious” error is an oxymoron
Using a video 50fps which can either be off or on depending which frame is choice with debatable parallax correction taken to a mm is also nonsense
Semi automatic
How can something be semi automatic it’s either automatic or it’s not?

He was clearly offside..I could see it from where I was sat...even the City players knew he was offside.
Lino was fucking bobbins ..his flag went up like a rocket when Marmoush was off yet he didn't flag for the dipper offside..it's just a load of bollocks by him..if he can't see the obvious then he needs demoting to non league.
Everyone sat near me were amazed that it even needed VAR to rule it out..

Well, again it emphasises the need for VAR - linos and refs are simply ‘bobbins’ - they always have been.

I only said bobbins because so many people don't believe in corrupt officials..
In all honesty there is no way he could not see that it was offside.
Mind you after the VAR decision he did raise his flag to signal offside..
I still can't stand VAR because of the way it's implemented..
If the lino can't see obvious offsides then they need binning..if you were at work and continuously made crucial errors you would be sacked..should be the same in football...it might wake the fuckers up.

They go through rigorous training nowadays, they have to be fit as hell and they are better now than ever in past.

The scrutiny they’re under is off the charts - if you want officials sacked for crucial errors then they’ll happen week in week out - they need tech help. Simply as.

Said exactly the same but he doesn’t listen

Fuck me mate..have you seen the gut on some of the officials..
It's not tech help they need apart from goal line technology it's being able to see what's happening on the pitch.. realistically how can linos miss blatant offside unless they are either crap or bent.
Yesterday one Dipper player deliberately played a pass back to the keeper and the keeper had to use his hands to control it but Red Tony said it wasn't deliberate...that's not a judgement call it's just bias ...
You like VAR I hate it..we will never agree on it..but like me you are entitled to your opinion..
Good win for your lads at Arselona by the way..loved the Haaland pose outside taking the piss out of the entitled Arselona fans and Skelley

Haha, if you think that was deliberate back pass you are off your rocker !

It clearly was NOT “clearly offside” given it was about 1 foot offside with both players and the ball all moving at the same time.

Lino’s do a brilliant job, but are not always perfect, especially with at least 3 moving parts to “see” and calculate at the EXACT moment the ball is played!

I was there surrounded by people who had the same view as the Lino and it was offside and no one around me was concerned it was off 100%

anecdotal, it looked very tight , replays showed how tight it was. If it was that clear , Liverpool fans wouldn’t of bothered celebrating.

I’m sure you are correct on your observation that no one was concerned. But, you were BARELY correct and it was nowhere near as clear of obvious as you believed, just because the movements exaggerated the gaps between players.

But, good on yer!

Give it a try and see how you get on……..

If you see back I strongly defend the officials, it’s an impossible job at times with the fractional tight calls, the speed of the game, the cheating, the crowds and bench appealing for everything and the constant scrutiny.

It’s one of my strongest arguments for VAR, refs need help!
