VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

That decision by VAR was a fuckin joke. It has no place in football. In this situation they should be intervening if the ref gives it and making him think again.
They seemed to only show the ref that one angle (Who decides that out of the now 7 refs we have)
It never would have been a pen without VAR, not even a discussion.
VAR rubber stamped it.
We all know the boring process if the ref goes to the monitor... it is decision that it is a pen.

Those are the shit things VAR is doing to our game.

At it’s very worse tonight. A complete non-incident, dealt with in real time in an absolutely fine way. VAR gets involved, despite it very obviously coming nowhere near the threshold of a ‘clear and obvious’ error. Ref shown the shittest angle. And even that angle shows Dias just getting a toe to the ball. And we still end up with a penalty.
Absolutely wank.

So many angles to choose from and they show him the singular one where it looks the worse, over and over and over again.

Why isn't the on-field ref asking to see other angles, like in rugby?
Why is he shown one angle only?
Why have they missed the touch on the ball and only focused on Dias clipping him afterwards?
So many unanswered questions.

The whole process is a total piss take.

VAR is garbage. And when they start thinking that kind of thing is an obvious error then we're really in trouble.

ratboy sets the narrative as he usually does, the way he refs the games from the pundits box is really sinister
Agree i think commentators comments.."oh maybe VAR should look at that etc' after the ref had zero interest.... really hurts us..115 / no fans / won because of money..etc. all lead to this commentator agenda = direct influence on our games via VAR

I didn't think it was a clear and obvious mistake.
Dias was tracking Rashford run.
Villa player ran in front of Dias.
Dias touched the ball.
Dias tried to stop.
Villa player slowed down and left his leg in an unnatural position.
Just two players coming together.
Villa didn't appeal much.
VAR decision a penalty

At what point did you decide that he "dived" on first viewing, after a replay or after numerous replays from different angles?

He did no different than what most players do, when they feel contact

Rice had his arms around him impeding his progress, as rightly pointed out he trod on Rice's foot, is holding now allowed?

Any comments about VAR not interring in the Arsenal pen?
We talk about VAR not being a person...but aside from the supposed auto offside, they are people' football fans no doubt who listen to the endless football media..radio..forums.. podcasts etc.. most of which seeps in to VAR operators notion of "proper clubs". Where do you think these operators place City.?..VAR is still subjective I mean, who really shouted for a pen last night?..Ratboy hinted at it so VAR opps gobbled up the opportunity after Ratboy 'gave them permission"
