VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

You know football has been a professional game for how long now a 100 years ? Rugby union was non professional until when, I’m talking more 6 nations early 80’s and yet they are light years ahead of football when it comes to refs and TMO ( VAR) something just doesn’t add up how one clearly works in one sport and another doesn’t it just fucking stinks ..

When you have people on var now who are obviously bias to fcuk it will always get those decisions!

Seen it, definite handball, officials got it wrong.
VAR got it wrong, as discussed things can be missed in real time. The linesman needs sacking after that one, but then a team of VAR officials have sat back, watched that incident and then decided it isn't handball. The whole thing needs scrapping

That fair enough, I’d rather keep it , vast majority of these incidences they get correct and it highlights once again how much get missed by officials - not because of VAR but they genuinely miss these incidences time and time again.
Infuriating when officials see it on screen and still get it wrong which I guess will happen and they won’t ever get everything flawlessly correct. Palace would have been 2-0 up if it wasn’t for VAR correcting the offside. However no excusing Henderson handball, they should have called the ref to the monitor.

Where do we go from here after Saturdays diabolical decision, if it was the other way round Ortega would have been off in a heartbeat, when Rooney is basically saying VAR isn't fit for purpose as it was 100% a sending off you know it's bent/corrupt whatever you want to call it.
Sick to my stomach over it.

That also was a joke, how in real time did the linesman NOT see him offside?

No because the linesman would have done his job & flagged rather than let it go to var.

The same linesman officials that missed the handball? You have faith without VAR that linesman’s will flag offsides correctly ? If you say so be it, then you would have no complaints with that goal being allowed to stand.

I don’t like to give them a hard time as for decades offficals simply miss what seemingly look like easy decisions - hence the need for tech help. Which the vast majority of time helps get the right decision but the outrage is understandable when they don’t.

Why can't they get it correct? Why can't numerous people look at that incident and come to the right conclusion? I also think it is an unfair comparison and refs missing things when there is a chance they let certain things go knowing VAR is there to wipe their arse. The offside probably would have been flagged wouldn't it, it was that offside, the flag stays down due to how they officiate games now. In terms of the game, there is a big chance they don't get the opportunity to be two up if they get a very clear call correct early on. They didn't need to call the ref to the monitor, they say oi, dickhead. Get him off.

I hope Webb apologises and I really hope City sue the twats, but probably neither will happen.

Can we get the Haas F1 team to demand an explanation from the FA and PiGMOL as to why Henderson wasn't sent off?

If not, then the club can use my edited version below:

Manchester City have asked for a review of the decision to not send off cunty Henderson in the FA Cup Final.

The Briton's deliberate handball was sufficient allow him to move the ball beyond Erling Haaland, denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, but it was allowed by governing body the FA and VAR on the basis it allowed Crystal Palace to win the cup against big bad cheats City.

But City believe the VAR stewards made a deliberate error, and that Henderson completed his handball outside the area and should have received the red card.

The Manchester based team have demanded an explanation for what happened and a strategy to avoid similar incidents in the future.

City said in a statement on Sunday morning: "After discussions last night with the FA, we have subsequently asked for further written clarification on the decision-making concerning Henderson's handball, in order for us to review more comprehensively.

"We similarly asked what measures the FA/VAR can put in place moving forward to ensure that this situation is avoided in the future to the benefit of football. Upon review we will be more informed to comment."

I agree that he should have viewed the incident on the monitor.
But does he have to be called to the monitor by VAR?
As he didn't see the incident surely he can/should act on his own initiative and go to the screen for a look?
This is entirely different to the many scenarios we've seen before where the ref makes a decision based on what he's seen and VAR judges an obvious error has not been made and therefore no recall to the screen. In this case he hasn't even seen the incident!

They didn't decide it wasn't handball, they decided it wasn't a denial of a goal scoring opportunity.
