VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

It’s killed the game for me and yesterday just confirmed it . No idea if it’s corruption or ineptitude. Not being bitter because Palace defended superbly and good luck to them .
In a cup game a decision like yesterday eliminates you , unlike a league game where you always have a chance in the next game .

Seen it, definite handball, officials got it wrong. At the very least a yellow and free kick but VAR doesn’t have the authority to do that.
People on here have long accused you of wumming. I never thought you were, always thought you were just a delusional cheerleader of something that the vast majority of football fans can see isn’t working. But your comments on this incident are making me re-think. Yesterday was about as clear an example of DOGSO that you’ll get. It’s a clear red card. The ref, assistant ref and VAR got it completely wrong. Yet you refuse to admit that.

How am I not admitting that , you literally replied to my post which I say ‘officials got it wrong’

I'm assuming that neither the ref nor the linesman saw the handball by Henderson outside the box. If they had then a free kick would have been given as a minimum.
So when VAR alerted the ref to the offence then surely the ref has to go and view the incident on the screen?
You should think so
It was a clear and obvious error so the ref has to make the final decision

If we get the correct call yesterday, the game is 100% different. Henderson won them that game, but he shouldn’t have been able to.
Another point is that if VAR have a look at the foul, why can they only bring it back it it’s a red/penalty. They’ve taken the time to review it, so why can’t at least a yellow be given there.
If VAR isn’t going to make the correct decisions time and time again, why should we bother with it at all? It just ruins the fan experience, making us worry that it’ll be disallowed instantly. Can never properly celebrate. If your accountant can’t run the numbers right, costing you money time and time again, you wouldn’t stick with him, would you?

The only conclusion I can draw from this recent discussion is that VAR has made the decision and in the absence of a recommendation to look at it on the screen the ref has chosen to accept the VAR conclusion without seeing what actually happened.
This is a new one on me. I can only assume the VAR protocol allows for this?

He had an unobstructed view but from five yards behind where he should have been. I doubt he could see if it was or wasn't inside the box from there.

The linesman was in no position, literally or figuratively, to help the referee.

Apart from that, this is all on VAR.
The lino can see the lines on the pitch in relation to where the keepers feet are at the point he handles the ball. His arm is way out in front of him, clearly over the line. If the lino can't make that call he has no business running the line in a domestic cup final.

You can not defend the major mistake when the VAR team have the replays we all watched.

The first and only thing the VAR team should be looking at is, did Henderson handled the ball outside the box, YES
Then Did it stop Haaland from a goal-scoring chance, YES

Stone wall, Red card and award Manchester City a free kick on the edge of the box

A bit harsh. He couldn't make that call from where he was, imho. By all means criticise him for not being up with the play, which is his most important job, but that is a different matter. I can see why the onfield officials didn't give anything.

Var was not to blame yesterday for the sending off.
It was the clown 20 miles away operating it
