VAR (PL introduction 2019)

I agree, but the argument from some, was that it would be used unfairly against us. they could have disallowed the first two goals yesterday, if they were going to abuse VAR but didn't. It's much harder to abuse this system, than the current one!!

Every club has supporters who think the refs are against them. They can't all be right.

There were a few on here a while back saying VAR wouldn't not be fairly implemented when it came to us, as an argument against it. I argued it would be much harder for Refs to continue to make some of the shocking decisions we've had all year, under the VAR review system. Yesterday for me was a pretty good example that they are wrong. VAR will never be perfect, but the refs will find it much harder to go against substantial video evidence. If they were set to use it against us, they could possibly have ruled out the first 2 goals yesterday, but they didn't. Correctly so.

Early days still, but yesterday hopefully put some minds at rest!

I agree the refs now cannot easily ignore things that are obvious ie leave themselves open to criticism but we may still have the video ref with shall we say an agenda influencing things by choosing to act or not act.
However overall I think it makes for better more accurate decision making.

if VAR helps to stamp out diving/simulation, referee "kettling" ( it's already an offence but never punished) then it is worthwhile. The nature of the game means that certain situations can never be 100% definitive, which doesn't mean var should be abandoned, but retroactive punishment for clear cheating would eventually improve the game as an entertainment. Forwards who deliberately initiate contact have been "conning" referees for years, the FA's insistence on ignoring blatant cheating has not helped (dive and get a pen !!..stay on your feet and get fuckall!!!) . Managers could cure most of it, but never will ( Stuart pearce a notable exception) the pgmol don't admit there is a problem, so for me, we should persevere , make a big statement by banning those caught, for a month. There are implications for the future of the game when kid's (who copy what they see on tv) come into the sport with the attitude that cheating is normal, expected even.
Matt LeTissier tweeted that those who want it to fail, fear losing their ability to affect results. I could not agree more.....

So if that's the Champs Lg final v Real Madrid, or the FA Cup final v Utd or Liverpool, you are convinced that the first goal stands when Ramos, Mourinho etc go.apeshit at the officials ?

And if Sané is 6 inches further to his left & still not really interfering with play, you are sure the goal still stands ? And would do so vs Utd or Real Madrid in a big game ?

And that the decisions would be exactly the same, for them in those same positions, as it would for us ?

Clear and obvious that the officials are trying to botch the introduction of VAR.

PGMOL are a disgrace.

Looks like the refs in this game are in trouble or at least they should be:

What a fucking farce Said this would happen Refs are using VAR as a crutch 3 mins to decide it was a pen

It is a farce but VAR or not, you can't try and dummy the keeper on a penalty like that, it was ludicrous.

I've said it all along, VAR is not the next progression of improving the standard of officiating in England; unless it's at least implemented, correctly, alongside other measures.

It doesn't tackle the issue and improve referees.

It will be used, abused and done away with alongside a "well, we tried" attitude.

right call then so what's the issue
The issue is football is a flowing game it’s unlike other sports that have natural breaks Do you really want to watch these clowns stood with their finger in their ear for minutes on end trying to decide? Total farce and it will spoil the game I’d rather it continues as it has done for over 130 years BTW they used VAR to rule out a good goal

I've only watched one game (last Sunday's final) with it in and it helped validate a goal in 10 seconds that might have otherwise been incorrectly ruled out. I didn't really notice any difference to be honest.

This evening and the Liverpool v WBA game have been a farce The crowd are booing and the players expressing frustration

This first half has been a joke, if this is the future I don't want it! You can't believe anything you see until the ref takes his finger out of his ear!

I've just watched the spurs disallowed goal and he's clearly pulling at the defender there is no way that's not a foul. you've already said the pen is a pen. So Var has got it right yet again. So you'd prefer incorrect decisions than correct ones?
