VAR Thread - 2021/22

When at a game is VAR only checking when the screen flash’s VAR check or is it checking at other times and only flash’s VAR check when it’s checking the referees decision for example when Sterling had the penalty overturned we had the screen in the ground tell us there was a VAR check in the same game Bernardo and I think Sterling again both went down in the box and looked like they could have also been injured and there appeared to be no check not saying they where Pens but it seems odd that the more serious looking pens got less of or perhaps no check or at least appeared to get no check perhaps because the ref did not give it

They check lots of things throughout the game - there are plenty of examples of the ref stopping play a minute later if the ball is in play to go back and give a penalty (for example).

My experience is that the screen only shows when the play has been stopped - possibly to explain why there is a delay to a restart.

Last nights Rag game:

First half - Maguire (as f*cking usual) hauled down an Arsenal forward in the penalty area and prevented him from getting to the ball. Ref and assistant ref miss it (or ignore it) Both commentators said 'if the referee had seen that it's a penalty'. VAR ignores it.

Second half - Foul on Rag forward in the Arsenal penalty area, again the ref and assistant miss it and play on... VAR kicks into life and instructs the referee to stop the game and have a look at the monitor. And... surprise, surprise, penalty to the Rag's.

There is no way the VAR match commander (or one of the other VAR operators) doesn't see the Maguire incident, but who decided that one should be looked at and the other ignored when they were both fouls of the same severity and punishment?

I watched that with Andy Grey and Richard Keys doing the talk after. They told it as it was that there was no way VAR missed it and how come Oli wasn't getting that sort of 'help' in his last few games.
I think that the rags are now going to get all the help that they need to stay relevant and it will be interesting to see how dodgy the decisions will be.
One thing it did show up though is that both the rags and the arse are pub teams compared to our boys in blue.

That is not VAR's fault though, it is the corrupt bastards using it.......oh that's what you meant......as you were.

We've heard all about the change of 'thicker' lines being drawn for the 21/22 season but what's happened to seeing them actually marking the lines down in real-time?

What's to stop them now, when it's literally down to pixels, of bias and manipulation entering into the equation? "Ooh it looks very tight that one... yeah, Salah looks just about level to me David"
