Vet Fees

Most Cats recover from Cat flu nowadays, it used to be a bit of a death sentence but they must be a worry for you at present.

Jasper went to the vet 2 weeks ago with 2 large lumps at the base of his spine but he has recovered well since his course of antibiotics and a bit of care and attention, genuinely thought the worst but there is always light mate.

Thanks for the support.

Were they up to date on their vaccines ? If so they should be fine

Sadly not. My fault. They’ve never been ill since I’ve had them. I planned to get them health checked and vaccinated as I recently got them all insured.

Yogi the neighbours cat brought he flu virus into the house. He comes in through the cat flap, eats, and sleeps sometimes in the house. He’s never been ill either.

Carlos’s caught the virus first, then Pip, then Maggie. Lionel hasn’t caught it yet. I took Lionel to the vets today and had her vaccinated.

Carlos, Pip, and Maggie are sleeping most of the time. Carlos is till coughing, only when he’s a wake, and not as much as he was doing. Pip is bringing up clear and thick mucus, but not coughing. She doesn’t too look good. I need to keep an eye out on both of them. Maggie is coughing, but seems to be coping quite well. Carlos and Pip aren’t eating much, if anything at all. Maggie is eating, but not often. I don’t know if any of them are drinking water.

The vet said it can take up to 2 weeks for the flu virus to clear. He told me to monitor the cats. If the cats haven’t eaten in 4 days or have stopped drinking, I have to bring them to the vets. Maggie is eating. Carlos and Pip aren’t.

I got some Synulox tablets instead of the liquid from the vets. However, if the cats aren’t eating, it’s going to be difficult to get them to eat the tablets. I’ll have to ask my neighbour to help me to give the cats the liquid or the tablets.

On Animed online, one Synulox tablet costs 34p. They are prescription only. The tablets take 2 days to be delivered. The vet gave me 42 Synulox tablets. That would have cost £14.28 on Animed online. The vet charged me £56.24. To vaccinate Lionel, that cost £73.00.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a vets worth, but…., I need to be careful here, they are…. I best not say it.

Only jumping on this now so it may have already been mentioned but my advice would be to sack the vets off and go to the Animal Trust. They're not for profit so all meds are charged out at cost. There's one in Failsworth that we use but there are others dotted around Greater Manchester. Unlike the PDSA, there are no eligibility requirements so anyone can use them. From our experience they're miles cheaper than the vets.

Thanks mate.

I’ll have a look at the website tomorrow.

Don’t feel too bad about cat flu jabs. I’ve had 3 cats live to 19 without them ever having cat flu. It’s part of the lottery of having pets.

Hope they buck up soon and that the vet sorts themselves out.

Thanks Alan.

Maggie has just eaten some cat food with a broken up tablet mixed in with it.

Took our Jimcat in last night because he’s been shitting through the eye of a needle for quite a while.
$565.00 later and I’m scratched to fuck and covered in piss.
Cheers Jim, you ****.

Be honest. It's an absolute racket being a vet. Preying on people's love for their pet. Antibiotics for a month £100. We'll need to keep em overnight to "monitor them" £200.

Most small vets practices being hoovered up by Medivet and a couple of other big companies.

It's huge business. Needs a government enquiry into the robbing bastards

Surely the actual vet's are just paid a salary, it's the companies like Medivet who are robbing you.

Got two dogs. Luckily one hasn’t needed vet treatment to date. For the other, BOTH potential claims in the last 3 years turned out to be invalid. One was because the condition was more common in unspayed dogs and she hadn’t been spayed. The other was due to an exclusion cause I hadn’t noticed: treatment of any growths or tumours appearing after Nov 2022.

Lessons: (1) Understand the different types of insurance and just how restrictive some can be.
(2) Read the renewal documentation more thoroughly.

As a result of this, I’ve cancelled the policy and am paying the £50/month into a contingency savings account instead.
