The original The Haunting is ace too - limited budget so effects are very much left to the imagination. Thats what scary movies are supposed to do - scare you through your imagination. Any director can CGI someone being chopped up. Shocking then its gone but the noise of whatever it is coming up the hall......verrrry scary

The original novel which Get Carter was based on was set in Doncaster, but Mike Hodges and the producers shifted it to Newcastle which provided a much more cinematic backdrop. Good decision.

The opening sequence is like a trip back in time.

Get Carter is a place of factories, smoking, Victorian boozers, proper betting shops, rows of working class terraces and villains called Eric....

Oh, and musical decanters.
