NASA created form a fear of the newly formed russian space agwncy and tasked with bringing the most brilliant scientists together.

Silicone Valley a US navy Air base and research facility that invited tech companoes to use rhe area and they steyed after the navy closed the base.

Manufactured bringing together of smart people into am area to create something, not organic.

Now if you had named the achivements of Gattling (though wether his invention was smart could be argued) John Wallace or Ford then they are prime examples of smart americans.

Why dont they teach Geography in the UK ? Can remember my lad who was 8 at the time, getting told off for telling his art teacher Africa was a continent not a country, when they were doing some ethnic style art. She wouldnt have it until the deputy head told her she was wrong.

This is not to knock teachers, there are some very good ones and its not a job I would want to do.

Yes, but I’m guessing the poster was referring to a person who voted leave, and thought absolutely nothing about the affect on their nice 2nd home they had in Spain - because they assumed it was completely unrelated to the inevitable consequences of them voting leave.

That’s an uneducated (or at least Ill informed) turkey voting for Christmas, by any measure.
 
What I’ve found in the last few years is the general knowledge of younger people and I’m including my wife (she’s 12 years younger) is absolutely shite, unless they got taught at school they don’t seem to learn much else. When I was young and still now I watch loads of tv o read things but because of the limited choice a lot on tv was educational to a degree, The World at war etc. Now theres that much choice and most shit, tic tok etc so they just absorb nonsense rather than Knowledge.
I had a conversation with my wife the other day on the World Wars, she didn’t even know the Americans where in it! We watch the Chase and she keeps saying get on it, it’s not to blow my own trumpet but it’s not the hardest quiz in the world but she even with multiple choice just doesn’t get much right, shes not thick ask her about Corrie or Emmerdale and she be fine.
The yanks I’ve met are usually ok but they are an insular nation many don’t even have a passport but then there country is huge and they typically only get 2 weeks a year off so why would you travel around the world with so much on your doorstep.

43% of Americans have a passport - higher than I thought.
A bit like the uk and Spain, many will fly to Mexico (cancun) and the Caribbean iirc.

You can take music as an example with the younger people, a lot of them wont tolerate "Old stuff" only interested in the next new shiny thing to come out. It's like they've been conditioned to be not arsed about what's going on around them.
 
At least a handful of times I’ve told someone where I’m from and they’ve asked “ oh do you know such and such “
