Patrick Vieira urges fans to trust Mancini over Tevez saga

Roberto Mancini is the perfect manager to make sure the Carlos Tevez timebomb doesn’t detonate at Manchester City.

Tevez is scheduled to report back for pre-season training next week after a summer of uncertainty caused by the his determination to quit the club.

But Patrick Vieira has urged City fans to put their total trust in Mancini, the man who delivered the FA Cup and Champions League qualification last season.

Vieira, who has just taken up an executive role in youth development after spending his last 18 months as a player at City, said: “What I respect most about Mancini is that he isn’t afraid to make the big decisions. Remember last summer when he allowed Craig Bellamy to join Cardiff – even though he knew this was a player the fans loved.

“This time he is having to manage a difficult situation with Carlos Tevez. But having to take these big decisions will not worry him.

“Whether he makes the right choice or the wrong choice, Mancini is someone who is brave to make a decision and move on.

“He always looks at the big picture.

“Whether Carlos stays or leaves, the only thing Mancini will be thinking about is what is right for the team so that he can win more silverware. It takes time for fans to trust a manager, but winning the FA Cup and finishing third will make the fans believe in Roberto.

“He will not worry one bit about what other people think. He can be ruthless with players – but great managers like Ferguson, Wenger and Mourinho all have that gift.”

Mancini’s tough streak came out last week when he reacted to Mario Balotelli’s showboating against LA Galaxy by substituting the Italian striker.

Vieira added: “Mario can do some crazy things at times, but he also has all the skills to become one of the best players in the world – and that’s why Roberto brought him to City. He will help him grow up and when the boy becomes a man – watch out!”

Vieira lifted three Serie A titles at Inter Milan under Mancini. And he says that the Italian’s ambitions with the Blues will not be sated until he has made them Europe’s top club.

Vieira said: “There were a lot of things said about the manager last season, about what would happen to him if he wasn’t successful.

“If anything, the pressure will be even more this season because the expectations will grow.

“But I don’t think pressure is something that Mancini worries about because he has worked under pressure all his life. No-one will put Roberto under more pressure than he does himself. He doesn’t just want to win, he expects to win. That is his mentality.

“He was happy to win the FA Cup for City, but he will want that to be the start.

“Mancini didn’t come to England just to win the Cup. He came here to win the league.

“He wants to win the Champions League for Manchester City.

“If he didn’t believe that the club was in a position to let him achieve his ambitions then he wouldn’t have come here.

“Being faced by Ferguson and Wenger won’t worry him. Sure, those men are managers he respects, but he has a belief that he can beat them.”

I trust Mancini.

Keeping Vieira is possibly the best signing we could have made this pre-season. Just the fact Vieira chose to stay with us instead of returning to Arsenal shows how far we have come as a club & what must lay ahead for usin the future.

When Paddy speaks, he speaks with an unrivalled air of authority & the football world sits up & takes notice.

I can see Vieira becoming a decent manager once he has enough experience. Arsene Wenger replacement in 5-10 years time, anyone? I hope not.

Or, alternatively, he climbs the ranks at City and becomes director of football.

Its interrsting to see how vieiras reputation has improved over the last 6 months or so. Seeming based on his ability to look good in a suit.

Weird, I was expecting our Football Development Executive, paid by MCFC to say that Bobby is shit, should be sacked and we should appoint Kia as manager instead. Shocking turn of events that he backed the manager

Or the fact that he played an important role last year. He contributed with goals and at time provided much needed experience when the pressure was on. Just his presense on the pitch in the last five minutes of games did wonders for some of our younger players. His new job seems amost perfect for him.

LOL!

I think the club have made a smart move to keep PV around. It helps to have ex-players such as him around to do things that go unnoticed like these little interviews with the press, guiding you players, attracting new ones etc. All top clubs have ex-players doing these sort of things.

there was a lot more thought in what he said than what you wrote; you are cynical in the extreme

My thought process is simple;

Show me one executive who has spoken out against Mancini.

I'll show you ten who haven't, when questioned. This isn't rocket science, it's PR.

ok what do you expect him to do, give an interview saying the manager is a bit of a cnut and that we would be better off with someone else? I don't really see what the point of your post was in the first place, it just looks a bit of a cheap and smug shot with no purpose. I like the way that Patrick Vieira conducts himself and I like what he said in that interview, and I think you could take a few lessons
