After the false starts he might just prove crucial to our top four hopes. he can still talk the talk at least.

Stop talking and start walking.

Altough in hindsight, "walking" might be a poor choice of word given the pedestrian start to his City career.

Agreed not sure how because he looked clumsy and very ungainly at times, but when he came on we were a far better team.

You really think so?

Oh, so it was just coincidence that all of our attacking pressure started when he came on the pitch, and any cripple could launch those two perfect through balls that he did?

No I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm simply interested in your view, for me we seemed to step it up from the very start of the 2nd half(SWP was put thru in the 1st minute)and looked very stong, the 4-4-2 seemed to suit us better on Sunday(I know we had played the last 15mins of the 1st half with it too).

Vieira certainly did better than our other central midfielders against Sunderland. But my personal view is that he would have been disastrous if he had started the game. There's no way he could have coped with Sunderland's pressing in the first half. He capitulated when faced with Stokes pressing game, but Sunderland managed to take it a step further in that 1st half. Vieira found it relatively easy in the 2nd half simply because their midfield was completely shagged. This is how he should be used in my opinion - off the bench once the opposition's midfield pressure and tenacity dies down.

Vieria will not run around for 90 minutes non stop. As a result he will never be flavour of the month on this forum.

Discussing his merits is a waste of time. Unless he's running about a lot, to hell with positional play or tactics, he's simply never going to be given the time of day.

It's unreasonable to expect him to perform like he was 10 years back. It was telling that on Sunday, his forward passing was a breathe of fresh air to our midfield.

Seconded.

First of all, he needs to change his name by deed poll to Patrick Viera as very few Bluemooners want to spell it correctly. Once he does this and promises not to get any more red cards, I will be happy to watch him eat our words.
