Villa (H) Post Match Thread

The fact that Walton actually had to refer to the ‘rules’ as opposed to his ‘opinion’ tells you all you need to know about that plank.

And then for McPointy to suggest the header was going wide prior to the handball is superfluous. It’s handball. If it’s handball in any other area of the pitch, it’s handball. The fact that it’s in the penalty area is tough. That’s the rule. Handball in the penalty area is punished by giving a penalty away. Or are we just making rules/opinions up as we go along now???

This is the tragedy of the decline in football coverage. At first commentators used to tell us what was going on on the pitch. Then they employed an ex-pro co-commentator to provide insight into what was going on on the pitch. Then they started giving us their opinion about what was going on on the pitch. Then they started speculating about what might happen on the pitch.

Now, they are just opposition fans telling us what they hope will happen on the pitch and getting very cross indeed when it doesn't.

Is that true (I thought it was myself) because I keep seeing in the comments sections of the media people crying that they keep changing the rules?
It's been there for about 15 years at least, otherwise when the fuck would play restart? The guy knew Rodri was offside, he saw him, he even looked back when he was controlling the ball to see where Rodri was and then tried to take the piss and control it round him instead of passing it to the guy right next to him. Don't see what the problem is or why everyone is saying "it doesn't seem right and doesn't fit right with me". WHY? What about when players stand offside and then run back onside? Are players supposed to have eyes in the back of their heads then as well? What about strikers not being allowed to challenge GK's from corners? Game is full of these, if you don't understand it as a player and a manager then that's your fault, not the rules.

Wio last night said Citys goal was "not in the spirit of the game"
No mention of the spirit when Martial blatantly dived in the semi final.
No mention of the spirit when Rashford admitted to being coached to be savvy and go down in the box.

Dean Smith showed his true colours also last night. How he could argue with Pep when they were obviously time wasting in the first half and his bitter comments at the end were ridiculous!

I do think that rule is stupid. And I do think the handball for almost anything is stupid. But so too is the fact that blatant diving goes unpunished. Martial should have been booked for that dive. They brought in the retrospective bans for diving a couple of years ago now and other than some early punishments that's completely stopped now.

The rules are the rules. I don't agree with all of them but the goal would have stood had it been scored by Villa and they'd have pointed to the fact it is in the rules so there's no need to be hypocritical.

It takes away from the fact that otherwise Villa were really good. Looked dangerous on the break and defended brilliantly. They tired at the end which is where we punished them.

I presume Waltons initial verdict was done in real time in which he just missed the fact that Mings played the ball (he'll be subject to camera angles, the same as us). More importantly (and something that the media all seem to skate over) is the fact that the ref, the assistant ref and the VAR officials (how many are there?) all decided that it was a good goal with no hesitation or needing 5 minutes to work out what happened. None of the City players seemed overly worried with nervous glances at the ref either, Villa players were maybe just complaining in hope.

It was mistake by Mings, pure & simple.

the live action clearly shown Mings chest the ball down and lose control ? so walton got it wrong and saying he did not see mings chest the ball down. well why the fuck was your answer to the question OFFSIDE without knowing the rule

just goes to show all the pundits a clueless and should fuck off and read the rules over and over again until you know what your talking about ? people are paying good money to watch football and your part of the package

KNOW THE RULES

Crazy game. On another day it could have been 6-2. We squandered numerous chances and Villa were always a threat on the break.

Foden, Bernardo, Dias, Gundogan and Cancelo were the standout performers.

These people who say rodri gained an advantage
He was 20 yards behind mings who knew he was there and chested the ball down
So if he was 20 yards in front of mings he can still make up the yards and when he chested it down take it off him
So how can he of gained an advantage
