Villa Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Went Yesterday.

One of the best smash and grabs I've ever seen.

Anyway.

Perhaps it's just coincidence? Or is it?

City 1-0 up Cardiff and cruising. Substitutions. The rest is History.
City 2-1 up at Villa and cruising. Substitutions. The rest is History.

One more thing. Why when there's a free kick dead centre of the goal, don't Managers put 1 player on the goal line alongside the Keeper? It's going to go in either corner. If the attacking team want to swap the 6 yard box, it will only make it harder for the free kick taker to score, due to the amout of players in the way. Just a thought.

Or deflects of someone into the goal

Spot on. Exactly the same thing happened when we went 1-0 up against Cardiff.

The two at should have been more than enough to deal with what was , in effect , just a basic goalkeeping clearance ..... but in all honesty the pair of them made a right balls of things ..... neither of them really made a serious attempt to intercept the ball , and it broke for the Villa player to beat Joe Hart and score.

I couldn't quite believe what i was seeing ...... somebody like Van Buyten , Dave Watson , Andy Morrison , or Mick McCarthy , in their heydays , would have made sure that was cut out , no doubt about that !

Are you for real the four mentioned all had a mistake in them

Every defender makes mistakes , even the very best , but those mentioned were all pretty solid , no nonsense , centre backs , and i doubt any of them wouldn't have deal competently with that ball ....... it was absolutely diabolical the way we allowed Villa though , i'll bet Joe Hart couldn't fuckin' believe it , never wind the 3,000 travelling fans !

Left it until now due to the usual knee-jerk shit. Weirdly, whilst disappointed we've not won the game, I'm remarkably sanguine. I know it's been a bit up and down this season so far in places, but the ups have shown me enough to not be too worried.

Onwards and upwards.
Yes that's very weird. Stoke beaten by Norwich today at Stoke (we drew), Cardiff failed to win their next two home games after beating us and yesterday we handed Villa their first home victory after they had lost at home to Geordies and Dippers. Still glad you remain 'remarkably sanguine'. We should have got nine points from these games ( minimum seven).

So basically it could have happened with any combination of the four playing

where has this myth come from that we couldn't score when Mancini was in charge.

I know, in re-writing history terms, this one is a cracker.

We were incredible going forward many, many times under Mancini - we've been incredible on two occasions so far under Pellegrini (Newcastle and the derby).

A big difference for me is we seem to have been far more solid at the back under the previous regime.

Of course Pellegrini hasn't had as many opportunities to impress yet and it's ridiculously early days for him and his staff - I hope we do prove to be playing better and more consistently than under Mancini (in all areas of the pitch), but as of yet, it's not the case. Clearly.

They had 4 shots on target. 1 goal was offside.

Look at the balance of possession.

Possession is good. If it means you control the game. If you control the game you restrict the opposition's ability to score by denying them the chance to score. They scored 3 and came back twice from being a goal down to win the game. That is not the hallmark of a team controlling the game. Possession with out control is an exercise in futility.

We had 67% possession yesterdray , but still managed to lose to probably Villas only three attempts on goal !

The City defending for the third goal was like something you'd see in a sunday league pub game , and the defending for the first was hardly any better .......

it's a fair bet that all and sundry connected with Aston Villa will wake up this fine morning and wonder how they even managed to win that game!

The defending for the first in terms of holding the line was spot on..they held their line and if the lino did his job properly they should have had that goal chalked off..

Instead of going straight into the top corner of the net. :-/

Not only that, but it would have to be some deflection to get past x amount of players all crammed in the 6 yard box.

Perhaps City should try it out in training, just to see.

It could , but i don't think it would ...... that goal was down to a lack of professionalism , and rank bad defensive play ...... the players concerned won't need telling that.

The goals we conceded at Cardiff were bad enough , but that third Villa goal was something else ... even for us !

Sport would be a pretty boring spectacle to factor out human error

4-5-1 with Nasri behind Negredo, ala 2nd half against Bayern pre-season.

Looks very fluid, hardly any top sides play 2 up top.

Negredo against Bayern?ur joking.
He didnt score against man u,didnt score against wigan didnt score against vila.
how do u justify him in a starting line up against Bayern?
Dzeko and Jovetic up front (if aguero not fit)
