The situation with Kompany is very tricky. He has been part of the City family for ten years, his contract is expiring and he wants to continue to play. Yet he is past his prime.
At the same time, we have 19 year old Matthijs De Ligt who is an upcoming world star. Go for contract extension with the captain and city legend, and risk losing De Ligt to Barcelona/Real, or letting Kompany run down his contract and buy De Ligt?

I would buy De Ligt, for sure. Having five centrebacks is one too many, and this is thinking longterm. De Ligt is too good to walk away from.

When Kompany plays, irrespective of the opposition, he appears to be the target for the immediate press. Opponents identify him as the most likely to give the ball away in our back line and put him under due pressure. They also try and funnel play to him when they can, something he can probably sense as well, which likely makes him more apprehensive. Situation wasn't helped yesterday of course by Laporte's pass.

He still has all of the physical attributes to defend against teams such as Burnley and Newcastle, but against quicker and better opponents others will get the nod. The management will realise this and have to weigh what he brings with his experience and leadership against what he can still give as a player.

Could have been sent off in the first few minutes but dealt with their big men very well yesterday

I'm not sure you have the definition of 'we have' button down yet :p

On a more serious note, what we do with Kompany will have nothing to do with MDL.

Kompany is a backup now. He's replacement, Stones, was acquired 3 summers ago. That seems to be working. Do I like MDL? Sure. Am I sure he'd be better than John or Eric? No.

There is nothing we can do about other teams getting good players. HopegHope John and Eric will turn out to be 2 of the very best. And by the time they are Kompany's age, there will be prospests who are probably 11 - 12 now who we will be scouting then.. Don't worry there will be more down the road.

We are not in for him and we have enough CB's,best ones we have had for years

Some refs would have sent him off yesterday, so perhaps a little lucky. Love Vinny to bits, but he has lost a yard in pace and against a fast attacker eg Vardy last season when he was lucky not to be sent off he struggles. Not sure he will be playing at City next season but a legend and in his prime the best cb in the PL.

I feel that he is so aware of his body that it has made him a little risk-averse and nervous, where our other defenders are calm. He has been my favourite player but for me, we look more vulnerable now when he plays, when the opposite has been true for so long.

He’s on the decline.

I thought yesterday he was a bit all over the place and he’s not getting to stuff he used to.

I love the guy but he may start to become a liability in bigger games.

I reckon Pep will resign him to domestic cup games until he leaves on a free.

A great servant to the club and will be sad to see him go, although that’ll only be temporary as he’ll definitely come back in one role or another.

I think the time is coming for him to leave.

Reading a bit of criticism of vinny on here and across social media. With his previous injury record he obviously can’t play every game, but by the same token he isn’t playing enough games to get into any rhythm. Not sure it’s the right thing to do to write him off just yet. Think he deserves better from us to be honest and im sure he will show us what we need over the course of season when called upon.
