People forget with more sky money transfers fees go up and up. There are less poor teams and more rich teams. You know have young players going for more than seasoned pros used to be.
 
He has the experience of the league and maybe that is what we should be looking for instead of another mangala. I think he would be a great purchase
 
I know people say the cost doesn't matter but its the fact we keep managing to spend +£30mil all the time.

Umtiti cost £20m. Van Dijk cost fuck all for Southampton, we was looking at spending over £40mil on Laporte.

Why are we always waiting for someone else to sign these players first?

13m,while relatively cheap,is hardly 'fuck all'.

He could also have flopped,given many supporters believed the better player of the two at Celtic was Denayer.
 
too much money for Van Dijk. hope he live up to the hype.
City wasted too much money on CB for the past couple years.
but none can replace Kompany. poorly scouted.

Kevin De Bruyne had almost no experience in the Champions League either, I assume you were firmly against spending money on him as well?

The differences are de Bruyne had been performing in a much better league for longer (Bundersliga), van Dijk doesn't not strike me as a £50m defender imo (the same could be said about Stones but is still settling in) and as it had been put earlier in this thread he could look like a world beater in Southampton's set up.

Don't sweat it. If it doesn't work out we can move him on and buy another. The law of averages suggests we will get a decent one eventually. Couldn't give a stuff about the money, it ain't mine.

I am not worried about the price but the next defensive signing is the most important as he is replacing Vinny.

Is the Bundesliga a better standard then the Premier League? Even if it is, there's still a lot more risk bringing players in from other leagues. Either way De Bruyne had been with Wolfsburg for 18 months, the same length of time Van Dijk has been playing well in the Premier League.

van Dijk seems another pace and power type of player and put him in our system and he will struggle big time. It is probably one of the reasons why we have got rid of Mangala and really struggled under Pellegrini.

I've seen a lot of Van Dijk and he's most definitely not just pace and power, I don't think any comparison to Mangala is accurate at all.

I trust Guardiola to know when he sees a defender who will fit the Guardiola system and style of play.
