Problem with Virgin, GiffGaff, Tesco etc. is that they use the dregs of the network owned by EE, O2 and Vodafone. My phone regularly fails to load things compared to mates on the bigger networks. There's a reason why they're cheaper, but it comes down to whether you're likely to use it regularly in crowded areas. Trying to use GiffGaff on 4G in the City of London is a waste of time, it never works.
