Manchester City on track with Virgin Trains

English Premier League side Manchester City have named Virgin Trains as the official travel provider of City in the City, the soccer club’s fan engagement events series.

The deal sees Virgin Trains become the second premium brand to sponsor City in the City for the 2015/16 season, joining the series presenting sponsor Henley Investments.

As part of the deal, the UK train operating company will provide Manchester City fans with travel discounts along their west coast network, including a 25 per cent discount on advance off-peak fares for all MCFC Cityzens members across the country.

Virign Trains will also offer City fans based in London and the South East a 25 per cent discount on first class travel on trains from London to Manchester on matchdays.

Additionally, Virgin trains will work with the club on a number of brand activations throughout the season, designed to cater for both fans and corporate guests.

City in the City is a series of events put on by the club throughout the season aimed at increasing engagement among their London-based fans.

Danny Wilson, Manchester City’s director of stadium sales and operations, said: “We’re delighted to launch this exciting initiative with Virgin Trains and look forward to working together in order to ensure Manchester City and the Etihad Stadium are as accessible as possible to our loyal fan base.

“Virgin Trains has played an integral part of our supporter’s matchday experience for nearly two decades. The new discount available to our Cityzen members and southern based fans will provide real value for money, whether they are travelling on a matchday or for other non-football purposes.”

Gary Iddon, the general manager for the North West, Virgin Trains, said: “We are very proud to be the official travel provider of City in the City, and excited to be working with Manchester City FC on a number of initiatives aimed at improving the experience of matchday travel for both their supporters and our non-football customers as well as on the series of events which makes City in the City unique.”

Just booked for Arsenal and Watford, used a railcard though. Wonder if you can use both

In the last week I've booked virgin trains for 4 people to and from stoke, Watford and west ham. Fantastic.

Hope none of you paid silly for West Ham...are yous aware of the £40 train to Euston and return AND tube all day included? Only valid on Saturday but it's a great price

Staying over this time, was £40 return. Used those plenty of times, absolute bargain and can return on any train

We paid £60.00 return. It was £40.00 but realistically we are struggling to make the 2100 train back to Manchester as game KO at 1730. Virgin know that and put the price up £20.00. Then this week you can get a First Class ticket from Euston to Manchester for £30! FFS
