Wage Comparison

Just wait till the new deal with BT/ Sky is announced in the next few weeks.

There will be a queue of agents at every Premier League club in the land wanting new contracts for their players.

And when the money men in the USA realise the potential of the game there, and stop attracting old farts like Lampard and Villa, and offer contracts that really make your eyes water to younger players, then £100,000 a week contracts will seem like penury in comparison to the present day.

Are they worth it?

Market forces suggest they are, and no employer pays more than they have to.

As a city fan I think their worth whatever the club deems acceptable. not my money or decission.

as a working person on £21000 a year and a socialist I think they get paid ridiculous money, but that's the thing I let my love of city ignore my left leanings but no one is worth £200000 a week when peploe are starving in the world, but I would hate to lose sergio n the like. that's football (or ny partisan following you have) rationality goes out of the window

And yet if they were taxed at 90% to make them more 'equal' there would still be the same number of starving people in the world.

Aye to me the systems at fault theres enough wealth in the world to end starvation just not enough will. That's not the players fault, market forces and demand by fans means they are payed what they are deemed worth, they have skills that are valued as high end and are paid accordingly. Are they really worth paying more than a skilled surgeon who saves lives I am not so sure.

Your dead on right. There is enough capital to end hunger in the world. The irony is that it is greed stopping it from happening. but that is a different argument.
Footballers are paid as part of a private business. They are paid a % as to their worth of the business.
Surgeons/doctors are paid from a public fund, that doesn't necessarily "make" money, and so shouldn't be compared in the same way.
Private doctors/surgeons are paid a hell of a lot more than NHS staff, as the cash injection from the paying clients means that a better surgeon = more clients = more money for the business.
It's the same process for football. Better players = more competitive teams = more income via tv , competition prizes, increased fan Base etc = more money for the business.
Players aren't assets, they are investments, which can go either way. So there is also a financial risk involved in paying such large sums. See adebayor, santa cruz, jo etc.
Morally You are right to a degree, but morals have no place on big business.

Good luck to them, these are players at the absolute top of their trade.

I'd say the op earns around 40k a year which probably means with a bit of training most people could do his job.

To put it in perspective out of the millions of British people in the world not a single one can do what aguero, ronaldo or messi does.

Absolute rubbish, most of those in the matchday threads are better than all of those 3.
It's just they can't be arsed dragging themsleves from their computer ;-)
