Absolutely gutted. Mr Rangers for me & my generation. A true legend, the manager that delivered 9 in a row, a European final, & almost made the first Champions League final.

One of the true greats that actually commands respect from both sides of the Old Firm & all of Scottish football. A very sad day.

Remember flying down from Glasgow for a City-Liverpool game in 2002. Walter Smith and his wife boarded and sat next to me. He was going to the same game in some scouting capacity. Very chatty/friendly and knowledgeable on all thing City. Said goodbye at the airport and then who should be sat directly in front of me in the main stand? He got worried then and called me a stalker
