Was our title team under Pelegrini underrated?

Away wins at spurs 5-1

Silva, nasri, the beast, yaya, zab, vinny and dzecko arguably at there peak and Aguero.

156 goals.

Can’t hekp but think this team was one of the best ever premiership teams and yet it doesn’t seem to get the recognition it deserves.

Anyone agree that this was one of the best ever premiership teams?

Pellegrini didn't get the accolades he deserved that year.
A great manager playing attacking football.
The best pre cursor to Pep.
It was the squad who took the piss and let him down.
He was just a little bit too nice, and a lot of them took their foot off the gas.

Guardiola expects and demands 100% effort all of the time, and players do get tired of that.

Look at that Chelsea squad. It's one year on, one year off

Certainly a good team to watch. It's strange when you look at that season's results (4 league defeats by Nov 10th and 6 in total) in comparison to last year's effort (2 losses all season). Seemed to take Pellegrini a few months to settle, understandably, but once he did, we were fairly consistent. We could have had a 12 game winning streak if we hadn't drawn at Southampton in early December (we slipped to 4th), and we were only 3rd with three games to go. Often wonder how better we might have been had Negredo not gone completely off the boil in the second half of the season.

and Fernandinho, and Negredo! it was a great team. Still remember the match against Arsenal at the Etihad, 6-3 to City with a great game from Ferna. Also in that season we had great upsets as well, specially that game against Chelsea, I was so fu#$ing upset with Nastasic/Hart, oh well... at the end it was a great season with another premier league title for City

maybe we don't get the recognition we deserve because we were chasing Liverpool for most of the league iirc until the slip and after that we were like a dog with a bone.

Yes.

Broadly speaking, a few players let him down, through lack of effort. Namely the season where we were joint top on New Year's Day with an identical record to Chelsea, and we just coasted. Maybe he wasn't as thorough as Pep is, now.
Oh, and selling Dzecko and buying Bony didn't help

Agree with this. What gets overlooked is that he miscontrolled an easy pass and slipped trying to get it back. It’s portrayed as him being unlucky when in fact he made a right town halls of it.

And ALL our winning teams have been underrated to one degree or another.

Edit - was referring to the Gerrard slipping over post!

It was a great attacking side. Thoroughly entertaining on their day. But it had a weak backbone. The team basically mirrored Pellegrini for me!

That semi final against Madrid is the single most frustrating match I’ve watched city play ever. People may think that’s mad given our form before our owners came in but that’s what makes it so annoying - we were a good attacking side but we were scared to give them a go. That certainly wouldn’t happen under Pep.

Anyway in summary, for me, one of the best attacking title winning sides but certainly not one of the best overall.

We won the league because we had the best players. Pellegrini took the handbrake off and was softer on them than Mancini and got a positive reaction. He couldn't back it up because this kind of approach only works short term. Let's be honest, Pellegrini walked into a golden situation and didn't have to do a great deal for that first title with Mancini's team. When we needed more from him he was found lacking. Pep is different gravy. He demands perfection always.

It's similar for Solskjaer at the rags. I hope they give him the job because being mates with the players will only get you so far and they will have used up a lot of that in a season that was already over for them in terms of a title challenge.

It was the best team that season, the season after it was average to decent, so the plaudits it got that season were deserved, but a domestic double was ignored by media, so yes it was underated as a season of success, but didn't follow up and that is probably why

Pellers not getting MotY or any players getting PFA award was a joke though.

Party poopers never get accolades.

pellegrini was vastly underrated , if you look at his track record at Real , Villareal etc., he is a decent manager and has also done Ok at a team that notoriously struggles against relegation every other year in West Ham , his demeanour in the media did not help his profile , he didnt give anything way and was not controversial, he just got on with the job . We didnt christen him "this charming man " for nothing , he did a good job the only disappointment was the lame way we lost the Champs league semi-final to Real.

Pellers did exceptionally well whilst here and yes, I think the title team didn't get the accolades it deserved and nor did Pellers

In the first half of that season these two produced some of the best attacking football I've ever seen, they were fantastic....

True.
Pellers problem for me was in the midfield with YaYa on the wane in Peller's last two seasons not helped by some of his selections. Will never forget the midfield two of Milner and Fernando selected for a home game against Barcelona in the Champions league. There was always a massive gap between attack and defence which our opponents would exploit once an attack broke down.
