As for what's best for the club it's probably a midfield maestro. Xavi and Iniesta (both somewhat unrealistic, and Xavi is getting on a bit anyway), Gourcuff, Fabregas...that type of player anyway. Dare I say an Elano type, but obviously not Elano. :)

Totally agree. If we are going to get to grips with a permanent top four place, and not just waggle about hanging on to whether one going through the trap door can do us a favour on the last day, we need the midfield padding out with players who can do what a midfield is meant to do - protect the back four AND supply a never-ending string of chances for the strikers. Gotta be someone like Iniesta or Villa. Preferably both. Ok I know it said one - VillieEsta then.
