To be fair, Hughes did switch to a consistently more attacking formation once he had better personnel. Hughes and Mancini's criticisms are opposite yet alike: Hughes neglected defending, Mancini focuses too much on defending. However, I believe Mancini is one gifted playmaker or so from a more balanced unit, he just doesn't have anyone (save for misfiring Stevie Ireland) to play that role right now and the failure to capture anyone for it in the January transfer window hurts.
