Why are Zabaleta and Clichy being instructed to play as attacking wingers as well as defending? No wonder they get confused and fail to perform either task correctly. What we need are a pair of out-and-out wingers to supply crosses to a good old fashioned centre forward, especially when our tip-toe through the middle system fails, which it seems to more often these days. If that means a new manager and possibly keeping Dzeko for the striking role, so be it.

YOU CAN PLAY BOTH SYSTEMS in the same game and you always need one winger regardless which we dont use or have.

This is not a transfer question, it's a tactics question. There's no point in us splashing out on wingers if it's not how we're going to play.

Bit off topic, but I thought Roger Espinoza was pretty impressive as an overlapping fullback for Wigan yesterday.

Espinoza was looking good because we allowed him to. Pretty sure he was dog shite against Swansea defensively on Tuesday.

I agree with your post when Zaba and Clichy (more so Gael) get forward they seem confused. This leaves a gaping hole for our opponents attackers to thrive on. This is greatly exploited in the Champion Leagues during counterattacks and even normal play! We need at least one winger in our starting lineup IMO. Especially on the left side leaving Silva & Zaba to do their thing (because they both are brilliant) but instead of pushing Clichy always so far City should keep him just with the central midfielders so on counter attacks he can be a 3rd defender in our seemingly last barrier at that moment.

Hopefully Sinclair can be used more or we should buy a top quality winger in the transfer market. I felt before and definitely after this season that Hazard would've been the perfect signing for City oh well...

Erik Lamela would be perfect. He is very versatile on the wings, will be able to link up well with our Argentine/Spanish players like Aguero and Silva. He has a lot of potential at just 21 years of age. But if we make him another Sinclair then we shouldn't go for him.

Another more risky but potentially much more interesting option is Juan Iturbe. He's on loan at River Plate from Porto. He plays predominantly on the right, and is likened to Messi. He's just 19, but he is really good. Would have started for Porto but Hulk benched him..
