Even if he's primarily backup he's clearly very talented and has the perfect mix of age plus experience to be very hungry pushing for more game time immediately you get the impression if Sergio Gomez plays he'll be effective during our attacks, which will be very good for us as it'll keep Cancelo on his toes for both sides of our defence with no disrespect meant to Oleks who was a great servant but Cancelo knew he had no creative competition at left back that he'd be back in a week later, Sergio Gomez's assist and creativity numbers give him valid competition and a reason to look over his shoulder in both the short and long term forcing Cancelo to up his game even more it can only be a good thing for us.
