Wesley (Brazilian right back)

Exactly! Viana is a data guy as well as visual and its exactly how Brighton do things?
Are we really going to copy the Brighton model ffs? They’re a well run mid table feeder club who do it to make a profit.

A big part of that is giving the younger players the playing time to grow. If we do that we’ll sacrifice our standards on the pitch. We might as well have kept the likes of Palmer, Frimpong and Lavia if this is the approach we’re now going down.

No, because unlike Brighton we will be putting them in the squad around players like Rodri, Haaland, Dias,Gvardiol,Foden. So nothing like Brighton really.

What a strange comment....

What if Brighton didn’t have to sell? Where would they be now probably going for champions league places.

Liverpool do data signings and they’ve just won the league. Data signings doesn’t just mean young players. It means. Players within the data that would fit the team. Instead of star names you recruit players that fit the specific data for the team.

No matter what league or team.

We should be using data to help with recruiting players who fit our playing style but we shouldn’t be following the Brighton approach. We don’t need to sign a high number of young players who need developing to reach our standard. We’re not Sporting Lisbon, we’re a successful team playing in a top league with one of the highest wage bills in world football.

We should be looking to establish ourselves as the Bayern, Real/Barca of our league whilst we’re in a position of strength with Pep. That doesn’t mean we have to go and spend a fortune on every player but give me a couple of Marmoush level players this summer over 4-6 Brighton level signings any day.

If this lad improves our first 11 then I’m all for it but we should be aiming for a Walker level (or as close to) replacement. I was replying to your post re data signings and mentioning Brighton. We should not be copying their model. This summer should be about replacing KDB, Ederson and Walker with three players who can make an immediate impact now with at least the potential to become world class.

Our best three signings since Dias have been Haaland, Gvardiol and Marmoush. I don’t think it’s a coincidence all three were pretty much guaranteed to be a success. Savinho is a brilliant young player but we’ve all seen this season it’ll take him a few years of development to find that end product. I don’t want a squad of development players, it isn’t being greedy or arrogant, we’ve been above that for 13 years and don’t think we should be lowering standards.

Our years of dominance were built around signings such as Yaya, Silva, Fernandinho and Aguero amongst others who all helped us get where we are. We replaced them over a number of years with the likes of Sterling, KDB, Gundogan, Mahrez, Bernardo, Laporte, Ederson, Walker and Sane. All of these players were highly sought after players who would have ended up at top champions league clubs whether we signed them or not, many were already successful. We have a great academy which can supplement the squad instead of cashing them all in for a profit.

Time will tell I suppose.

If there is any position where we can or should take risks, its full back. And a Brazilian national team player isn't that big of a risk.

Id be totally on board with this.
Exactly, he might be the exact type of signing we all get annoyed about other teams succeeding with, al a Kerkez, Andy Robertson etc

£25m for the starting RB for Brazil isn’t bad is it.

Obviously none of us know what he’s like but he looks top in clips and a shoe in for Nunes’ current role in the side.

I would liked very much to have kept the likes of Palmer, Frimpong and Lavia.

Frimpong has a €35m release clause. I've not really watched him, but you've got to assume he's done pretty well given how Leverkusen did with him in the team last year. Club trained too, I'd assume.

Great winger/wingback....ok fullback

There is a reason no one has activated his clause yet

Gotta say it's the same in most sports these days.
Fuckin Oakland A's have a lot to answer for ;) - what happened to just taking a punt on a player after watching his YouTube highlights, worked with Samaras :D

Is he better than yan cuoto?

Yan Court is closer to a winger than a right back, he's technically very gifted on the ball and good going forward but can't defend, he's not very quick or physical he's quite like Angelino.

There's a reason why this went viral...

He's sadly amongst the easiest opponents Vinicius Jr has ever faced.

Potentially very good going forward but can't defend, would've been decent for Leverkusen these past couple years under Xabi Alonso.

Unless we switch to 5 at the back there's probably no chance he stays.

All great players now but all needed moves to develop. Palmer was looking ok, took some chances but also looked lost sometimes. The other two never would have got a chance.
Same with Morgan Rogers. I don't think anybody would have foreseen that he would have become as good a player as he has. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. They all had to move to become the players they have.

We should not be looking at what Brighton is doing, they have no top flight success at all. If we should be looking at what any other clubs is doing it should be the any of the most successful clubs in football.
